I was wondering if it's possible to update the ATi 5650 graphics card on my Envy 14, HP's last update was months and months ago and to be honest I doubt they will release another update for it short of their being a major technical hitch with the current drivers.

I've tried downloading the drivers straight from AMD, and while they seemingly install, when I go into the AMD control center it lists the last official HP driver number so I'm not sure whether or not they actually updated the graphics driver.

Okay, well I took a screenshot from a fresh install with the latest HP driver, and then tried installing the AMD driver (10-11_mobility_vista_win7_32-64_ccc) and put them side by side,

Pretty much the only change is the Control Center software number, which is separate to the drivers I think, It hasn't updated any of the actual drivers.

does this mean the latest HP drivers contains the latest ATI drivers? Cuz I've been trying to upgrade to ati drivers without success.

The latest HP drivers are from August and are incredibly out of date, I hate being at the mercy of manufacturer updates because they rarely release them.

If you try to use the mobility "Package" it says that I have no compatible hardware and won't install.

Would love an answer to this... I am in the process of reformatting and reinstalling everything from scratch.

Disappointed if all we can use are the HP supplied drivers.

I checked around and it looks like the graphics drivers are locked down (HP isn't the only one to do this). Apparently it's a consumer support issue or something.

Thats a real shame, my last notebook didn't get a single GPU update from Asus over the three years I owned it, I was downloading them direct from Nvidia.

I'd hate to see the same happen here.

IIRC, you use the same drivers I use, and they came out in October.

EDIT: I don't recall correctly. lol

HP's drivers aren't locked down. It's just that AMD's official drivers don't support systems with switchable graphics yet. (They will, but for the 6000M series unfortunately.) HP has to add support to the drivers for them to work on such systems.

@OP: Try the driver here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-...-hp-dm4-dv5-gen-2-g32-cq32-envy-14-intel.html

Make sure you uninstall the old driver completely first.

Hey guys, does ANYONE know how to update the drivers for the 5650? I tried the guide here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/6582113-post2587.html
but it didn't work.... it's still the old HP drivers. It seems that nothing i do will update my drivers from the crappy HP ones to the new ATI ones... I dunno what to do :S

Okay I managed to fix this problem for myself and I've now successfully updated to 10.12. My switchable graphics still work perfectly.

All I did was google the drivers and downloaded them from opendrivers.com. Site is said to be safe by Norton, Google, McAfee, and a few others. There's some user reviews that say you can get viruses, but I ran a MSE scan and a Malwarebytes scan after and nothing showed up, so yeah.

that works because when you download from ati you either get the CCC and no drivers or you get the thing that downloads stuff for you and then it realizes your computer is intel i3/i5 switchable and doesn't download the drivers for you.

you have to get them manually like how people with toshiba and sony laptops have to get the drivers manually (from a direct link or from someone else who uploaded the whole thing)

Haha that's the same file I used. It seems we both had the exact same problem and solved it the same way :p

Anyways, are you having the slight issue of the brightness keys not working? I read up on it and it seems it's an issue with the new drivers... may revert back to 10.10 because of this.

Yup, HP brightness keys do nothing, However you can still control the brightness through windows power management, just click the battery icon in your system tray and click "Adjust screen brightness" I always have mine set to 100% on power, and 60% on battery so it doesnt worry me

you can also hit windows key + x to bring up the win 7 mobile settings thing (one of the options in that is brightness)

also brightness buttons still work while on the intel gpu. it's just the ati gpu that doesn't work with the brightness keys anymore.

Hi guys I was wondering if you felt any differences from updating the ATI drivers? I'm currently on 10.7.

I have a problem whenever i right click on desktop and select one of the options. That particular option sticks onto the screen like a dead pixel and often I have to switch graphics card to and fro to fix the problem. And if I forget about it and accidentally right click, the option sticks there again.

Do you guys know if updating to 10.12 will help to fix this problem? It gets kinda annoying especially when i'm watching a video that thing stays there.

    Thank you.
