I changed my system on my Compaq nx8220 laptop from Windows XP to Windows XP Ultimate. Now, when i had just XP i was able to use my neighbors internet through my wireless connection. However, when i installed Xp Ultimate, i dont have a window i can open up and search for possible wireless internet in my neighboorhood. What do i need to do? I checked the whole computer and could not find anything, even under network connections. Before i could search and then it would list whose connection was available and how strong it was, then i would connect to it.

    What is XP Ultimate?

    If you mean Vista Ultimate....

Once you get over the initial newness of Vista, you will find managing wireless networks is actually improved over XP. Good luck. :)

@ Evaders, why did u put spaces in the link you posted? Kind of defeats the purpose of a link no?

The system looks like Vista, but says XP Ultimate Edition and is XP. Weird. Im not stealing from my neighbor, his company pays for internet so he lets me use his connection! So the Vista tutorial will not work. Any other way?

Windows XP Ultimate...I'm pretty sure you've made a wrong turn while pirating.

You either pirated Windows XP Home or Windows XP Pro. There is no ultimate edition.

Actually it wasnt me, my dads friend knows a thing or two about computers, my laptop crashed and he took it and "fixed it" for me. I thought he was going to install his XP cd, but i guess not. it says Windows Xp Ultimate when i hit start. Should i be looking at buying a original xp cd or can i find something online?

did your computer come with xp? If so you should have an XP key on the bottom of your laptop. You just need to get your hands on an XP install disc.

i thought each product key is unique to each cd, so you cant use a product key twice

No, you can use any XP disc so long as you use the product key beneath your notebook.

You will need this key to authenticate with Microsoft.

The cd key is not tied to the disc, it is tied to your computer. You cannot use the same cd key on a different computer, but you can use the key to reinstall on the same machine as many times as you want.

    Sounds and smells fishy

There is only Vista Ultimate, not XP Ultimate.

I'd get a legit copy first before we dive into figuring out whats wrong (to some respect, we may already have!)
