I am having trouble getting any audio out of my HDMI port, I plug it in to my HDTV and all I get is Video on my HDTV and audio from my laptop.

Is there any way to toggle where I can get Video+audio to my HDTV through my HDMI port on my 8510p?

    thanks

you cant get sound through the HDMI port because it is not connected to the sound card, because it is part of the graphics card
you can use the optical out to get digital audio

Sry, but this is not true ;)

I connected my HP8510p via HDMI to my LCD TV and got after a few trials both: Picture and sound!
    That's how i've done it:
    -Go to the control panel
    -Sounds
-Rightclick on the so called "Digital Output Device (HMDI)" and set it as default
The sound test was working (came out of TV Speakers) but PowerDVD still wasn't...so i just set the "audio settings" in PowerDVD to something else and back again (to kind of "refresh" it..) and now the sound came perfectly out of TV speakers!

/edit: Of course you probably also have go to your TV's options and set as sound input the HDMI port..

hmm... maybe it only works on the business line of laptops cause it doesn't work on my dv9500 with hdmi (ive tried everything, it just doesn't work)

Well it works on the dv9000 as well. May be the TV not supporting the sound. /The only pain is when switching from TV speakers to laptop speakers you have to go to the control panel every time.

The trouble that I have is when I play HD/DVDs through the TV it will skip some frames, not the smoothest picture.

Definitely something wrong with your setup. dv6500t here and sound works out of the HDMI port with both XP and Vista. In Vista I just had to go into the audio properties in control panel and set the digital output as the default device.

After I upgraded to XP, it put sound out automatically.

An easier/quicker way is to right click on the "Speaker" in the task bar, click playback devices, and set SPDIF to the default device... You may have to restart the program you're running sound on to make it change to the new default device.

Its not just a business line thing... its for all the HPs with HDMI.

I also have a dv9000 and have sound and video out of the HDMI port.
However, I find sound intermitent - if I watch and MPEG or DVD the sound is fine and then there'll be a few seconds of silence (picture continues just temporary loss of sound). Any thoughts on where to look to investigate this?
