I have a cruzer micro 2gb, and I cannot seem to leave it in my computer, because if I reboot, vista will not load. There is no option for it to not boot through usb drive, even when I change the boot order. I just updated the newest bios, F.29. There is still no option to change it. I tried the stick on my friend's xp computer, and it booted just fine without pullling it out of the laptop. PLEASE HELP!!!!

How far does your computer go before it freezes? Does it show the Vista loading screen? or does it freeze before that. Please be as detailed as possible as to how far the booting process gets before it freezes.
-
It gets stuck on the hp invent logo...it does not even load vista....one time it tried to do that and vista had to go to a service repair screen and do a system restore...I believe that right now the bios wants to boot from the usb drive, but then just freezes into the hp invent screen. When I pull the stick out, everything is fine.

What is the boot order of your devices in BIOS? That could possible be a reason why. Take a look at them and make sure that it first looking for the CD-ROM or HDD (depending what you want the boot order to be). It might be trying to boot from removable devices first before it goes to the HDD, and if it finds a USB device it will freeze trying to load the OS and it won't even try to boot off the internal HDD.
-
My boot order is
1. CD/DVD
2.HDD
3.Network Adapter
4. Usb Diskette on Key
5. Usb Floppy
6. Usb Hard drive
there is like no option to turn off the usb harddrive whatsoever. -
I'll have to do a little research on this, because I'm not sure why it isn't booting up. I don't own a HP laptop at the moment so I can't try and test it out, but I'll get my brother's laptop (my last HP laptop which is a dv6000z) and see what I can come up with.
If I find anything else relevant I'll let you know. I would also tell you to call HP and ask them, but I doubt they will be any help. I've been in similar situations and called HP for help and they were useless because they were only reading instructions from a screen. -
haha thanks a lot for trying to help! i really appreciate it!

As you already set the booting sequence correctly, it seems the bios isnt even reaching the booting point. Its more likely that the bios hangs while scanning for usb devices and encounters your flash drive. For some reason it refuses to initialize and mount it. I'll put my money on a non-standard formatting of sorts, a previous attempt to make it bootable etc..
-
I don;t get what you said..what did you mean by nonstandard formatting of sorts, me is a noob. But yeah, I did an rma for the stick, because I had the exact same stick before and it worked fine. I also use a usb mouse and ipod video which acts as a harddrive too and that works fine. This is weird because the stick that I am about to rma works completely fine on my roommates xp laptop. I hope the new one coming in will work again like my first one. This will be my second rma, after arguing for an hour with sandisk on the phone.

anyone got any way to fix this problem on a dv6000? My THIRD sandisk cruzer just came in, same problem, screen is stuck on hp invent screen when usb drive inserted and rebooted.
-
Sorry I don't know an exact reason, but have you tried to reformat it to see if it helps? Does it have all that U3 software stuff on it? Do you want/need it, reformat it clean. Maybe thats causing this?
What are you doing with the cruiser in when its booting up? ....Readyboost? -
mine works fine. i have the black sandisk 4gb cruzer micro
-
yes, i use it for readyboost...i noticed this doesn't happen on my roommates xp laptop, he can just leave it in without any problems...As for me, the hp bios seems to want to boot through the cruzer micro, but there is LITERALLY NO WAY to stop this from happening. The first cruzer micro that i bought from costco did not have any problems, the ones san disk is sending me is doing this...what the hell is going on!!!!!!!

does anyone know if different usb drives more power than others, or should they be all the same, my other sandisk 256mb works fine...
