I'm deciding to buy a self-customized notebook from Hp shopping. I'm planning to get the DVD/Cd-RW option. I'm wondering what the speeds are for the Cd-RW drive.

Their CDRW drives usually have a CDR write speed of 24X (Zoned CLV). This means that it starts to burn at 8X, goes for a couple mintues then just up to a faster speed. It'll keep doing this until it hits the last minute of the burn where it'll hit the 24X speed. To burn a full 700MB CD at 24x should take approx 4.5mins, but depending on the media type used, it can take anywhere from 6.5mins to 11mins to burn. Never tried the CDRW speeds, but it's rated at 10X.

Wow, that's a weak CD-RW. I would only think it would come with at least a 48x24x48x, and with that VC thing it seems to be quite slow. I guess I'm going to consider buying a 8x dual layer DVD-RW. Are those good? :(

I've never used one of those in a notebook before. I can't be cure if the drive is Z-CLV or not. You may want to check the specs online/with the manufacturer before purchasing.
