further to my post....if I leave my laptop running overnight as I'am downloading something, next morning screen is blank but the laptop is running, but can't bring anything to the screen. I then unplug the power, close the lid, and turn over the laptop and remove the battery. Laptop shuts off, and then I will reapply the battery and I then can turn on the laptop and everything works fine. Laptop being couple months old I,am running Vista, just wondering if I have something turned on or off in my settings, to cause the problem.

well, sometimes there is such a glitch, but it is more a windows issue.

sometimes i have the very same thing going on with xp 64. but for me it helps when i just close the lid to put the laptop to sleep. afterwards i just press the powerbutton and immediatly the screen is showing the correct picture. a friend of mine has the same thing with his macbook pro ( bootcamp and xp32) , so i guess it is an issue of windows sleeping modes.

maybe you could try sending the notebook to sleep and wake it up again, this at least works for me.

    best

Interesting solution....I guess I have to do a little more work with vista, I was unaware of such a sleep mode, I have tried this and it came back on, hope this will solve the black out thing. I have been looking over the forum on the CQ50 Compaq's, very interesting posts. I didn't do a lot of research before purchase, the sale looked good. $549.oo future shop.
