Hi all, I just purchased a hp dv1000t from Costco 1/2 a month ago, and it was working fine. Suddenly i turned it on one day and the backlight is gone. Changing the brightness setting on the keyboard does nothing. I mean..you can still use it...it's just almost impossible to see anything in any lighting condition without a backlight. I'm probably going to be returning it, but is this a common problem with Hp's (or laptops in general) at all? Maybe I should go with an apple next time. :(

Haven't heard any reports of this being a common problem. I recieved my dv1000t from Costco as well, about two weeks ago, and so far, I really like it!

Small size, excellent display, and loooooong battery life! (I purchased it with the 12 cell).

You should perhaps send it back to Costco, and give it one more try, unless you really think you'd prefer the Mac.

Probably the inverter. Also make sure (if there is one) that the suspend switch isn't depressed.

I have had my dv1000t for about a month and no problems. I love it
