I was just on the HP DV5T site customizing the HP DV5T, although what was strange was that for the graphics card section instead of having the 9600M GT option, it gave me "256MB Nvidia Geforce 9200M GS", whats going on?

looks to me they are phasing out the 9600 gt in this line of laptop... So now the only line which has the 9600 gt are the HDX and Dv7t. It might be for a marketing move to get the dv5t line cheaper so more people buy who don't really need a 9600 gt

Who knows they might release a new version of the dv5t with like a 9800 gt or something.. either way looks like crappy for consumers. less choices

I was actually looking at the dv5t vs dv7t vs HDX 16 - I guess if people want anything close to a gaming laptop now they have to go with the larger lines

Did you select the Bronze finish? As of yesterday, the 9600M GT was still available (but only with Bronze).

Its probably out of stock again, its happened in the past where the option was missing.

I would not be holding your breath on that option. The best GBU HP has ever stuffed into one of there notebooks was a 8800m GTS that was in the HDX Dragon (20.1" display). The dv5t is not big enough to handle the thermal requirements for the 9800m series. Even the baseunit on the 15.4" Asus G50vt with 9800m GS is as large as a 17" notebook from HP or Dell.

There might be a chance to find something better than the 9600m GT in the HDX18 coming in the future, but that is only me wishing... Like the HDX Dragon, HP released a better GBU option after it launched.

I'd guess that they discovered heat issues with the 9600GT. I think that's why you see so many refurbished laptops on tigerdirect with lower spec graphics than the systems advertised with new
