    Hey

I bought my laptop in early august and have been very pleased with it since then. Last week however, my comp has gotten much louder than it used it without me altering any settings. It used to be inaudible before in a quiet room but recently, the fan is making too much noise. I have checked the ducts to make sure no dust is in tehre and have made sure the laptop is on a level surface. The temps too are running like at 50 degrees all of a sudden. I have even formatted my comp to make sure no weird drivers were the source of the problem but the problem still persists. Finally i am never on the integrated graphics and always on the intel ones. Does anyone know what is going on?

    Thanks

When I run my dv6t on the IGP the computer is nearly silent except when it needs to boost to run certain applications and some websites cause this. With the 5650 on, i guess the fan just runs harder to dissipate whatever heat the gpu is creating.

At school, I just keep my IGP cause the internet connection won't let me play any of my games.

The best way to have a silent machine is to use the IGP and put the computer into power saving mode. That's what I do.

    Hi Gohan_d1:

By what means did you underclock the ATI5650? Did you lower gpu voltage or did you reduce the gpu clock speed.

    Thanks,
    C.

try cleaning the fans' radiator with compressed air. might be full of dust/lint.

I have not underclocked the gpu. Nor do i have the 5650. I have the 5470 and have set the power settings to power saver and so my CPU is clocked at around 1.5 on average when idle. I have cleaned the ducts to no avail. What else might be the problem?

Have you de-bloatwared the computer? I know some of those programs will load the cpu badly, but it sounds like you already might have done this. So you have no intel gpu? Only the 5470?

Did you change any system settings when it started? If it just started randomly one day is that a program you used when undervolting could be conflicting with PWM

I have reformatted my computer this morning. No change. Yes it started randomly one day. I am running on the intel graphics card at all times. The 5470 is turned off. The fan is still running constantly.

Did you ever figure this out? Last week my fan started 'clicking' a little (like it was starting and stopping repeatedly). When I got into work this morning (the laptop had been left on all weekend at work) the fan was pretty loud. Even after being shut off for a while, the fan is noisy immediately upon turning on. It's not so much of a whooshing air as a mechanical noise. Is this similar to your problem?

EDIT: before anyone asks, nothing is running (0 cpu usage), the laptop is elevated (9 cell battery) on a very clean desk and is rarely moved. There's no sign of dust anywhere. Also, I'm running the integrated graphics.

since there is no new software installed or hp CoolSense setting change and u make sure the fan outlet and inlet are free of debris, then I have to ask is the fan make loud noise from laptop start up or under windows only.
if the fan appear loud from the start up (u can make sure by entering to bios and listen to fan) then it may be hardware issue.
when I bought my hp dv6, the fan make a loud noise from start up (always working at full speed), I have to completely dissemble my laptop to reach loose fan connection which completely resolved fan problem. although your laptop is not brand new and it worked normally for little time, but there is slight chance that u may also have this loose fan cable connection (Hp has great quality control!!)

Did you update the BIOS or something? You might need to go to the BIOS and uncheck the "fan always on" option.

Mine idles in the 50 degrees range, that is normal.
My fan goes from quiet to loud depending on the
load. When gaming it blows burning hot air out and
is over 90 degrees. Get core temp and use system monitor
to see if your cpu load goes down to <10%, the fan should
    slow down.
