    Hey guys,

I have an older DV2315nr that I want to invest just a little bit of money in, so I can use windows 7 on it. I have read around that it will only support 2gb of ram, but then I have also seen it will show over 2.5 if you replace one of the 512 sticks with a 2gb stick. I want to, if possible, put 2x2gb sticks in and run 7.

If anyone can help me, please let me know. Thanks in advance

    I had a DV2040TX that had a 945PM chipset. I was able to use 2x 2GB.
Only down fall with using 4GB like that is, you will ever only be able to use 3GB or 3072MB RAM. Why? The chipset controller is only 32bit and will not address anymore memory than that. In theroy you should be able to address a little more than just 3GB, but HP has somehow locked this down, maybe for stablility reasons.
On a brighter note, using 2x 2GB will allow full dual channel mode.

You could always go one 2GB stick and one 1GB stick. It maybe slight more stable, at a slight reduction in your dual channel type mode. Could save a few dollars if you are buying both modules new.

Thanks for the reply man. I love this lil machine, its perfect to carry around. My G73 is just to big to carry on the fly. I will look into getting the 2x2 just because of the full dual channel. The ram for this thing is cheap enough it doesn't matter. Or I guess I could just get 4gb stick :-D

I went 2x 2GB even though I could not use all of the 4GB, for these reasons:

    1. Matching pair
    2. Full dual channel
    3. Can use later in other new chipsets like the 965GM, and use the full 4GB. Which happened, although a friend of mine ended up with them.

Not sure if it will accept a 4GB single module. I would not risk it, the cost of a single 4GB module maybe alot more than 2x 2GB.

Apparently DV2315nr is AMD-based so it should benefit better from 4GB. Of course install 64bit OS.

That original "max 2GB" is old news, from the time when there wasn't 2GB modules widely available.

Thanks for this. I just bought an Asus G73JH, and I will be upgrading the OS there to Ultimate 7. I plan on running my 7 home premium here. Thanks for the heads up and answers guys. I will let you know how it turns out.
