I just bought a laptop for pharmacy school. I'm not good when it comes to computers. I bought a HP dv295se. First off my school recommended atleast an intel processor capable of 1.5Ghz. I discussed this with the sells rep and he said the AMD Turion x2 was "better" than the intel duo. He said the intel was for gaming and the AMD was for applications. I will just be using this computer for school functions (powerpoints, getting online notes, watching videos for class, software, etc.). I've been reading reviews and it says the comp is slower, with a short battery life, and runs really hot. I know i should have researched it more, but it seemed like a good deal at the time. Anyone have any opinions on the computer?

The TL-60 cpu is more than capable of handling school/business tasks with ease, as I have no performance problems with my lesser TL-58. The battery life is not stellar, but you can always pick up a high-cap battery if needed.

As for heat, mine idles around 47C to 51C. There is little difference temperature-wise between mine and my aunt's dv2200 that has a Core 2 Duo T5600. She just gets better battery life......

My friend purchased a DV2700T with an Intel processor and a 12 cell battery. It performs great through everything, but the battery provides about 7 hours of battery life. That's way better than AMD. In class you want a longer lasting battery. It's horrible when you can't crank out enough juice to type up your documents.

my needs are pretty basic so Im hoping that this will be fine. It was pretty slow when I stared it up for the first few times today, hopefully thats just the bloatware. I really enjoy the look and feel of the laptop, so I hope its good to me

Your processor brand isn't going to affect the battery life. What are you comparing 7 hours to? If you think there is a difference, maybe your friend knows how to conserve power, and you probably have a 6 cell or dead battery.

    Was the attack necessary? lol

The processor brand isn't what I was getting at 8 MONTHS ago. Intel Centrino utilizes better battery saving mechanisms that conserve battery life insanely.

Unless you can do anything about it, I wouldn't worry about it.... it'll do you just fine.

However, I would recommend looking over the following guide which will make your laptop feel noticeably faster.

If you find it overly complicated/difficult then just uninstall all of the bloatware as it will also yield a good performance increase.

Here is an article that you will probably find helpful as it tells you how to remove bloatware...
