Hey guys, I have an hp dv5t and my cd/dvd drive suddenly stopped working. I think you better look at the pictures, but one day vista said it was intalling that random letter device, and then after that my cd drive doesnt seem to work. It still opens, and seems to spin up the drive after you close it but Its not showing up in my computer. Any help would be appreciated thanks!

btw bonus points if you can tell me what the unknown device and data aquisition device are in the device manager lol.

There are two likely possibilities: (1) there's a hardware issue with the CD/DVD drive, or (2) one of the drivers is corrupted.

Restore Vista to an earlier restore point. See if that helps.

    Good luck!

I am suspecting a hardware issue here. What about the BIOS? Is the drive invisible there as well. Go to the boot priority options to check it.
