I just got this computer delivered from Circuit City on Wednesday and it was fine yesterday and fine most of this evening until about a couple hours ago I started to hear this clicking sound coming from the hard drive area, I googled for a solution and did the Check Disk that was suggested, restarted the computer and it said the scan was fine but the clicking sound still persists.
I have just started to get used to this computer and don't really want to have to turn it in but I'm not sure what is going on. I was also thinking it might be a refurbished model but CC didn't say it was because when I first got it the keyboard seems to have a raised section near the spacebar.
Anyone have a reason why after only 2 days of use this could be doing it? I haven't been using it hard only on the internet and have only downloaded about two things, Safari Browser and yahoo Messenger.
Also I'm not sure if it means anything, I'm not computer savvy, but the order we placed with CC was for a Dv6809 but the one I was sent was Dv6700 are they same? or was I sent a different one?
One last question, also when it was purchased (online by a friend who was sending it to me as a gift) they also purchased the CC Protection plan but when i got the computer there was nothing included in it about the CC protection coverage.

yeah, the clicking is indeed a known problem. this happens when the heads go to their parking position. usually this happens a few times per minute. if this is happening more often, you should take some measures.
search : clicking sound from hdd
, and you will find quite a few threads with several possible solutions to your problem.

for the hard drive the solution above is your best bet.
Also dv6809 is a specific pre-configured model number (similar to how, say, a pre-configured ThinkPad may have T61 7663-BD6 but you'll only see T61 on the notebook apart from the label) for the dv6700. Check the label on the bottom for the specific model number. -
My 6833 (dv6000) does it as well. My wifes 2000 does it...but not as much.
It can get annoying, but since I use a powered cooler, it tends to drown it out. I can't exactly pinpoint when it does it, but it can get annoying. -
I wonder if the clicking follows a particular drive manufacturer. I have a WD HD in my dv6700 and it is totally silent, no clicks at all.
