Hello guys , brand spanking new to this forum. but my main question i'm in search of an answer for , is where could i find the software download for the entire restore of my laptop ??? i've googled it , and searched stores only to find the disc costs $25 or more , but have been reading about downloads available for free .
my hard drive recently crapped out on my laptop , so i bought a brand new hard drive and it says " operating system not found " , so i asked the store where i bought it from what the deal was , the guy said i have to reinstall any programs and drivers onto the new hard drive via a cd . i've tried many times to restore it using F11 on the reboot screen , with no luck .
thanks in advance for any help provided , i read through this forum before i signed up and it seems there are a lot of informed and helpful people here![]()

you can do a clean install with the windows 7 dvd in my link and then install drivers, but that's pretty much the only thing you can legally download for free (Vista or Recovery Discs are not legal to download)

how would that work if my laptop has vista installed ??? or would that be the new windows software on it since the hard disk is blank right now . i apologize for all the questions , i'm pretty frustrated wi th this thing and trying to get it up and running asap .

The easiest thing for you to do is to order the recovery discs from HP for your notebook. It will cost you less than $20 shipped. Too bad you didn't make the free recovery discs as you should have on your notebook.

Of course you could purchase a new OS such as Windows 7 Upgrade for $100, install it then download any drivers you might need from HP or ask here on the forum.
It all depends on your knowledge or competence with computer releated issues or operation as to which option to pursue. -
So I have access now to the exact same laptop , how would I go about burning the disc with the files so I can use it on mines ??? I tried looking for an answer with no luck .

Well, assuming the other laptop is running the default HP installed Windows OS along with the intact restore partition and the recovery disc burning software plus the other laptop owner hasnt burnt the restore DVD's yet, then you can run the recovery dic creator from Start-> Search menu type 'recovery disc/CD creator'. The link for the program can also be found in Start-> All Programs.

thanks miner , got into it and figured it wasn't used yet , creating files as we speak . hopefully this works and it'll restore my laptop . crossing my fingers , wish me luck

Should you have difficulty making the discs make sure you use quality DVD's and DVD+R's usually work better for creation.
