iph03n1xi, i think there is something wrong with your ram because my 9543 has a rating of 4.9 not 4.3 in that catagory
-
Also is there anyway to upgrade ram so 4 gb is supported? i really want to upgrade the amount of supported ram so i can run 64-bit vista
-
The 9500 series supports 4GB of RAM. Here is a link to HP's specs:
http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/s...itch=true&a1=Usage&v1=Entertainment&tab=specs
The maximum memory expansion is 4GB. -
Just get 4GB RAM and put it! No problems at all! But check first, if you really need Vista 64. Some issues may occure... Like 3-d party drivers unavailability or a little slower 32-bit soft operating.
-
I have a HP Dv9543Cl and on the spec Sheet it says it doesnt support anything above 2 gb of ram

Also, when i hold G down during the boot my computer screeched like a Banshee and continued normally, does anyone have this problem as well?
-
...
Does this mean it has no HDMI too? -
it has HDMI, how do i check the maximum about of supported memory?
-
Do you think the loud bleep from the speakers when holding G is a keybind from the BIOS?
-
I think, it's just a technical mistake about supported RAM size in Costco's ad. Well, it's a Santa Rosa based system and it should support up to 4GB of RAM.
-
Does your dv9500 emit a large bleeping sound if you hold down G during the boot? I know this may sound a little paranoid but I've become weary as my first dv9543cl had a corrupted harddrive when i bought it and i want to make sure that there is nothing wrong with my current "investment"
-
Well, I really don't know why should you hold G while booting it?
-
Lol, It's a long story, I was reading a book and leaned on the keyboard then it pressed the G key and the super loud bleep scared me and I fell out of my chair.
-
Long story short*
-
Oh yeah, and does opening your computer and adding RAM void your warranty?
-
Well, I hope you did not drop the laptop while falling down from your chair?
It won't void your warranty, unless you made a physical damage to memory slot or board around there. -
Thankfully I didnt, it was sitting on my desk
, but i wonder if the loud beeping was a certain keybind from the BIOS
-
And the next time I turned it off and rebooted it, it said vista didnt boot right the first time (although it did) and checked the hard disk for some odd reason.....
-
Yes, that buzzing sound output will happen even if you push and hold some other button. Don't worry about it. Get new memory and put it in. I can put a picture of opened memory bay on my page for you not to be scared to open it yourself
-
A picture of the memory bay would be nice, Thanks a bunch for your advice and opinion on the matter. I guess I'm just a little paranoid about the computer after the last one had a corrupted hard drive, and seeing the "failed boot up screen" again. I guess i just got a little freaked out.
-
Oh yeah, and is it hard to replace the hard drive as well?
-
Same easy as RAM. Will post pictures of HDD and RAM bays soon.

Is there a way to check the maximum amount of supported memory? and where did you find the deal for the seagate 160gb (went and looked on your website)
-
Oh, and Suland how did you get the OS from 1 HD to another without the clean install disks, did you make the recovery disk then run it on the new HD?
-
So it doesnt come with the Vista Anytime Upgrade CD?
-
-
So is it possible to swap out the hard drive and use the recovery disks? or will you have to buy a vista again?
-
Well, mine busted. sort of. Noticed a 'flare' in the lcd screen - about an inch long. when you looked down at it from above. white light bleeding thru - straight line - about an inch long. like a pencil mark. also, the screen buckled there when you pulled the back of the case - at the corner, like to close the cover.
Called Costco warehouse, "none left, only 19" ones available" say what? Called Costco Concierge - they said I could call HP and schedule a repair - which would take weeks, or try the warehouse again to see if they can find one and get it shipped to them.
Called the warehouse back, asked for a manager. Gave him the Costco part # from the receipt. "We have 4 or 5 available, stop by." Out the door, exchanged for a new one.
Get the new one hooked up, look down at the screen - a smaller flare - in a different place. think i can live with it. Go to install Vista from scratch. No Anytime Upgrade disk (this time).
Back to Costco. "Um, I think I left a DVD in the box. Can you get it for me?" Hands me the box, I grab the Anytime CD and reformat the laptop.
i still like the laptop. -
Got my dv9543 on Aug 20 and love it!
Too bad it can't be hardware raided.
