I thought all Dv9500t with santa rosa supported 4 gb of ram? however it says only 2gb on the product spec sheet. Could this be an error?

You can load up to 4gb of RAM onto it, but it is only preloaded with 2gb.

It states that only 2 gb ram is supported meaning that any RAM you add above that amount will not be used, correct? So how is possible that you could add in 4gb

Dont just blindly believe what manufacturers state! HP is offering 4GB RAM with the dv9500t series. The dv9543cl is just a pre-configured version of the dv9500t series. Meaning it will have the same hardware/software, BIOS etc. The only difference being the dv9543cl has a fixed spec while the dv9500t can be customized. So, you can upgrade the memory to 4GB without any issues.

Ofcourse if you have 4GB RAM installed, Windows(32 bit) will only show a portion of the 4GB of RAM (~2.75GB to 3.5GB) since it has to reserve some of it for the hardware to use. This is a limitation of the 32bit Windows, If you upgrade/install 64bit OS then you will see the full 4GB RAM.

I dont want to open up my computer and mess around with the internals unless i know for sure that 4 gb will be supported, on every single spec sheet for the dv9543cl (costco,hp.com) it says that its maxed at 2 gb. All santa rosa computers can run at 4 gb of ram? or can it be limited?

Then just wait for someone to confirm, that it works in his DV9543CL. Otherwise, I would get RAM and try it.

Miner, the Super Moderator, fully answered your question. Stop being paranoid. If you want 4 GB of RAM, it will work in your system.

9543CL does indeed supports 4GB. I purchased this: http://shop4.outpost.com/product/5284717 for $129.99 after $40 MIR. Installed the pair on the laptop and Vista Home Premium 64bit sees the whole 4096MB memory.
