Hp Elitebook 820 G2 : Flash cash slot PCie m.2 SSD (2242 or 2260)

Hey guys,

Not many replies in this sub forum but I'll try my luck .

I have an SSD in my main slot and I'm really happy with it. But I would like to expand my space and/or boot linux out of the PCie slot in the 820. I know nothing of the subject (getting difficult to keep up to date nowdays).
It seems that I can fit a little PCie M.2 ssd card with the from factor 2242 or 2260. I get my infos from that thread : https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/1200436-hp-elitebook-820-g2-m-2-slot

You can see in the below the slot in question (the blue "flash cache" slot). From the specs it is said the you can fit as aforementioned either a 2242 or 2260 card "= expansion card 22 mm wide and 42 or 60 mm (1.65 or 2.36 in) long respectively."

I live in Canada and it seems that it is extremely rare, and also the card comes sometimes with 3 connectors (there are 2 in the 820- would it somehow work with 3 ? IE - https://www.ebay.ca/itm/Visiontek-9...765407?hash=item36253997df:g:vA8AAOSw-09aAOjC).

Even a 32 gigs would be kind of ok for me.

Any of you know where I can order/buy such of card at an affordable price? Any advice?

EDIT : dont't forget that Newegg Canada sucks....I could find a 2260 in the US version but not Canada....ridiculous.

If you want a sure thing and this is just backup you could also use the mini pcie slot with a usb drive -- super cheap option. You can get these off ebay for a couple of bucks and this one worked fine for me in a Thinkpad X230.


Haven't tried this in a G2 820 though I'd be interested to know how you went. Not sure if you could install an mSATA drive here also -- currently researching this

 

So to be fairly honest, this laptop is a steaming pile compared to what is out there these days and I have this as it's a work machine. dell xps or lenovo x1 carbon anyday over this.
