Is there a big jump for size difference, weight, screen size/width/height?
I went to the store and they only had the 17 inch and it was massive. I just ordered my 17 inch on the last day of the 33% off deal and I am worried it may be too big.
I plan on using this for gaming as well as some schoolwork.
Does anyone have any experience with both laptops? The extra two inches does not seem to be thaaaat big of a deal but I am really considering returning my 17 when I receive it and purchasing a 15 instead.
Any thoughts would help ! thank you

From what I can tell.. It's like any jump from a 15 inch to a 17 inch laptop.. Sure, the 17 inch will be bigger, but as long as you're not a 70 pound chick, the size won't matter too much. I've had 17'' laptops for so long now (last 4 years) that anything smaller then 17 is just tiny... That in mind, I also own a small 12'' netbook... and I have a hard time using that now..

this would be my first laptop purchase so i dont know the normal jump from a 15 and a 17
is there a huge difference in screen height? or is the 17 primarily wider

It's mostly width.. There's SOME screen height, but for the most part it's width. Personally, I use my laptop as a complete desktop replacement (which I didn't expect to happen)... and I've been in love with the ENVY 17.

would you recommend it for taking notes in college on those tiny little pull out desks? Will there be extra comfort with the smaller size of the 15 on the small desk or do you think it wont matter

    thanks for your input!

I don't go to college (yet), so I can't say either way.. Of the colleges that I've visited the desks have been too small for me in general (I'm 6' 4''), and it looks like a 17'' laptop would "eat" the desk.

On a college desk, both mainstream and desktop replacement laptops are probably too big for comfort.

I think a 17 would be too big for taking to school and back. Not only is it heavier, why would you need such a huge screen for taking notes or looking at power point slides. The only reason I see for getting a 17 is to keep it on your desk for the most time. I have no problem using my 15 for school and home.

Really, it comes down to preference.. I don't see the problem with hauling around a 17'' laptop... If you're able to carry the weight, and like the screen, there's no problem..
