So my HP Envy 14 with the radiance display started to have a problem with the screen. On the screen there were these permanent blotches of bright light as if the backlight was leaking through there. Now since HP doesn't have anymore radiance displays to replace mine with, they have deemed my laptop unrepairable. HP has given me a few options.
1) Take my laptop back as-is
2)Recieve $450 in cash (no way am I doing this)
3)Get my laptop replaced by a similar one
My options for replacement are as follows:
- A new hp envy 14. This would would have the standard screen (1376 x 768) or w/e but they offered to upgrade it a bit (such as blue-ray drive or better cpu)
-An HP envy 15 with a 1920 x 1080p panel
-A dv6t that I could probably get with the i7, 2gb gfx, and 1080p panel
Now I was naturally going to choose the HP Envy 15 but I have read posts on this website about how its display cannot show the colors red or violet. This seems like a ty problem to me and makes me hesitant towards getting it. The dv6t seems powerful, but isn't as portable or prestigious as the Envy 15. I really liked the envy 14 for its portability so I already don't like the fact that I have to get a laptop an inch bigger.
So what do you guys think I should do? Should I take the Envy 15 with its display issue, take the bigger dv6t, or keep my current laptop as is?

Go for the Envy 15. The display issue isn't really that bad.

It's kinda hard to suggest which one to get without knowing the exact specs you are getting with the dv6t and the Envy 15. I think the things the Envy has over the dv6t is it's aesthetics, speakers, the screen's viewing angle, and it's thin chassis. With the dv6t, you get better color reproduction on the screen, anti-glare display, and Blu-Ray player. I think someone on this board also mentioned that the new dv6t come with a 7690m XT while the Envy 15 only has the 7690m.

I would be getting a base envy 15 with only the screen upgraded to 1080p
The dv6t would be base quad edition with 2gb gfx and 1080p screen -

envy 15 for sure
build quality is rock solid
yes my screen has orange reds but it isn't that bad, only notice when i look for it hard -
I'm sorry about your laptop failing and the fact that you have been pretty much forced to get a larger laptop, but for those of us who would prefer a 15.6" over a 14 this actually seems like a pretty sweet deal lol. You get a free upgrade to the next generation of envy's, and they even give you better than the base config.
The benefits of the envy are:
- superior aesthetics
- backlit keyboard
- ips screen which is better than the dv6t's in all regards except for color reproduction
- slightly lighter, substantially thinner, slightly smaller width and height
- better build quality (not quite unibody, but almost)
- bundled with photoshop and 2 years of norton (though the dv6t might also come with norton)
- higher quality speakers, which forum users have reported to be actually pretty decent (however, the dv6t still has 4 speakers and beats audio, and its sound quality has been reported to also be decent)
- somewhat better battery life, but the envy still isn't winning any battery life competitions
- will probably have a better resale value. The dv6t they are offering you sells for less than the envy they are offering you.
The benefits of the dv6t are:
- better graphics card
- its screen is matte and does not have the color reproduction problem
- better processor. From what you said, I gather you have a choice between an i5 envy and an i7 dv6t.
Personally, I would probably go with the envy, especially if you could (maybe) negotiate your way into getting the cheapest i7 quad in the envy. Keep in mind that you probably won't notice much of a difference between an i5 dual core and an i7 quad core unless you do things like run virtual machines, compile a lot of code, use 3d design programs, etc. -
When did you send yours in? They received mine after it broke on December 20th and I haven't been able to get in touch with my case manager. Also, what specs did they offer for the Envy 15?

went ahead and got the envy 15. Thanks for everyone's help.
Hope either my units screen isn't defective or HP becomes nice enough to fix it if it is!
