I'm starting to see a lot of downloadable 3D content available online,
Avi/mkvs etc. There sbs(side by side) and l/R (individual left and right frames) ones. Any idea which ones work best with the Envy 17? Or which players to use? Nvidia has a dedicated 3d media player for them. Does Ati/tridef/hp have a similar player?

See: Biohemmet.se for some downloadable 3d content. Would appreciate it if some one would try them out. Also, any other sources for 3D trailers etc? I think YouTube has a 3d section too.

    My E173d comes in a week :)

    Thanks!

Also, i found a link on a forum ( My first 3D BluRay movie - AVS Forum) for a 3D test demo bluray iso.
Can some E17 3D owner try mounting it as a virtual drive and checking if HPs media player plays it fine and in 3d?

From Tridef's own site, they admit the software/drivers do not support BluRay 3D :( That does not mean in the future it won't. I intend to call them and just ask. I suggest you might want to call them up and ask, easy to find out. Whoever finds out first should post.

P.S. Wow! I am now a Notebook Geek according to my status on the forums..maybe I should slow down my posts? Naw!!! lol

Doubt it :) unless it's on it's way to Dubai. I ordered mine on the 1st through a friend (400$ coupon, couldn't resist, pushed me over the edge) so it was officially delivered on the 22nd. Hope it's perfect!

According to HP response. While the laptop GPU does not support native BluRay 3D decoding, it can achieve software decoding for BluRay 3D playback. So it should work with most if not all BluRay 3D movie play backs.

I even got the Disney's A Christmas Carol in BluRay 3D waiting for my Envy to get unstuck in AK and come to me... Will let you know if it does indeed work with the laptop.

There is definitely some confusion here.

The HP MediaSmart player will play 3D Bluray. I verified the demo 3d was able to mount with Virtual CloneDrive and play properly in 3D with MediaSmart player.

The same MediaSmart player will play regular bluray.

To play 2D content in 3D, you need to use TriDef's 3D player. This player will playback DVDs, AVI, WTV (media center) and other formats in 3D through a conversion process. The TriDef player does NOT support bluray. I was unable to convert a 2D bluray to 3D using TriDef.

There is no reason to play a 3D blueray using TriDef since no conversion process is necessary. You should just play the 3D bluray using HP MediaSmart player.

BTW, I don't think it is a issue of HD so at some point, I think they can probably get 2D bluray to convert to 3D. My media center content is HD recorded from ati digital cable card and it has no problem converting them from 2D to 3D. However, although it does convert, I'm not I would enjoy watching 2D content conversion to 3D since it just doesn't look authentic to me. Victoria Secret's Fashion show in 3D is quite an experience but I'm not sure I enjoyed anymore than in 2D :)

However 3D games is completely awesome!

    @jywang
Lol nice! Any luck with playing the stuff at www.biohemmet.se They have some new trailers and long clips from avatar 3d and resident evil 3d in 1080p too. I can't understand why people would want to to watch 2d content in 3d either as i can't see it being comparable to something filmed in 3d. Kind of like how 1080p upscalers became popular initially.
