    Hp HDX 16 5.1 surround sound

    hi,
    i havent long owned my hdx16 but am wondering of it is possible to connect my 5.1 surround system to it, it has 3 audio in jacks on the system and the laptop has 3 ports on it, surley there must be a way to connect the system. Does anyone no anyway of doing this? cheers

    Yeah the laptop has three ports, but one is a microphone in jack and the other two are dual headphone outputs. Useless if you'd ask me but oh well. And the bad news is that they cannot be remapped (believe me, i've tried).

    That means you cannot get 5.1 sound without getting a dock for your laptop.

    As mentioned you can't do it via jacks sadly, you can use the HDMI as a audio output for upto 7.1 but your surround system has to support that, you other option would be to go with a external sound card or a expresscard one (older creative x-fi with 5.1 adaptor, good luck in finding on though).
