    Hp Pavilion DX 1000 Screen shutting off?

    This unit's screen or video started shutting off at different times, sometimes as soon as you see the XP Logo and other times as soon as it goes to the desktop, no where under the unit does it ever feel hot so I don't think it's any overheating issue? Whenever the screen goes blank, the unit still stays on. Also, I tried connecting an external monitor but nothing unless there are specific keys to press to activate the external monitor?
