Is it a good buy? and HP has been criticized for overheating, has that problem been solved with these new releases?

Help!!!!!!
-
If you are going to do mediocre gaming it is pretty good
i5 will fulfill most of your needs and 5650 is an entry level gaming graphic card
maybe you can upgrade the ram to 4gb?
its a good buy.
I hear the new models dont have problems with heating
I'm buying a dv6 with an i7 soon
-
yep upgrade to 4 GB is a must!!
The only reason iam buying this is because i dont have much of an option living in Pakistan!
But are you sure, the overheating problem has been solved? -
The 5650 is far from entry level. It's upper-midrange, and more or less all games will play with at least medium graphics for at least the next year, if not longer. Many will play with high settings. Unless you're a hardcore gamer who needs every game to play at max settings and 1080p (in which case you should be looking at desktops), the 5650 is a good GPU and can even be overclocked in the dv6.
I have almost the exact same computer, and it has not overheated. I have yet to even hear of this model overheating for anyone. The left palmrest gets warm, and the idle CPU and GPU temps are a bit higher than some would like. That's as far as it goes. -
i just plan on online gaming like COD 4, or TF2, so i think this GPU would be fine! and i saw the GPU's benchies, they were not that bad, for the kind of gaming i intend on doing!!
Then again the only thing that is stopping me from buying this is overheating related to HP, i dont want to invest so much only to know that my Laptop shuts down every now and then because of overheating! :s
and i live in Pakistan, it can get very hot here!! -
Well, the ambient temperature could be an issue, but still the dv6t should be fine; certainly no worse than any other Core i5-based machine with the 5650 and only one fan. Still, try to use it in a cool room while gaming, switch to the Intel graphics when not gaming, and invest in a cooling mat. HP's overheating issues seem to be resolved now.
-
I cant take the risk!!
how is the Dell inspiron 15R, it has a weaker GPU but does Dell suffer from Overheating? -
It is a considerably weaker GPU. It will work most games at low settings.
It is really your choice. All laptops will heat up under pressure, cooling pad will always help. -
Yes, iam well aware of that, but HP has been criticized the most for overheating! so thats why iam a bit concerned!
-
As I said, their new laptops don't overheat like their old ones did. No matter what laptop you get, you're going to need a cooling pad and/or you'll have to only use it in cool rooms. Unless you're willing to go down to a netbook, you're taking a risk no matter which company you buy from. Either deal with it and take the necessary precautions, or don't buy any notebook at all.
-
haha! okay!!
So what kind of a notebook cooler would you suggest? -
I'm actually still looking for one, but this guide might help you: http://forum.notebookreview.com/accessories/304671-notebook-coolers-buyers-guide.html
-
Alright, thanks alot for all the help guys!!
Just one more thing, did your HP laptop ever shut down because of overheating, when you were gaming, or watching an HD movie? -
It never even came close to the critical temps, even after playing games for a couple of hours. I've never seen anything over 90C on the CPU (which shuts down at 105C, so you can see a significant difference there) and ~70-75C on the GPU (usually at 66C maximum) after gaming for about two hours. And that's without any cooling pad.
