ok , so I've been trying to burn the Recovery software to discs for my HP Pavillion DV6000 for quite some time now, using another identical laptop , and I keep getting errors popping up saying I need to use better quality discs. I've tried many different types of discs from DVD's to CD's all with the same results .
listed are the ones I've tried so far
DVD'S :
Memorex 16x 4.7GB RW DVD+R
Memorex 4x 4.7GB RW DVD+R
Maxell 1-16x 4.7GB DVD-R
Maxell 1-16x 4.7GB DVD-R ( colored ) ( got the closest with this , it burnt about half the DVD then kicked it out , tried again with more of the same discs and it didn't want to work or even start the burning process )
CD'S :
Magnavox 52x CD-R
Memorex 40x CD-R
so far , all crapped out and don't know what to do now . it'll collect the files , and right when it starts to burn them onto the disc , it spits the disc back out and says to get better quality discs and that I can't use these . I really need these discs burnt because I had to buy a new hard drive for my laptop and it came without any software pre-installed so it's blank . thanks in advance for any help guys , it's greatly appreciated![]()
edit - forgot to mention , I went to Radio Shack to see if they could help me figure out the disc problem and what would be " better quality " , he mentioned something about the ( +'s and -'s ) and ( RW and R ) on the discs , do any of you know what that would have to or might do with it ?????
another question - which disc speed would be better to use for the recovery discs , lower speed or higher speed discs , cause as of right now , I'm really lost with this .

Well it could be the DVD drive too. Try using the same dvds and burn them using a different DVD drive if you have one then see if your drive can read the disk. Also you could try burning the DVDs at a slower speed. other than that only other suggestion would be to try a different drive.

I was thinking the same thing too about swapping the drives with mines , but I'm not positive how to take them out and change them and I really don't wanna break the other laptop I'm using to try and get the software from . any tips on how to do it ???

I don't like any of the DVD brands you used and have had trouble with each of them.
Most people have had better success burning the restore discs using DVD+R media. Don't use DVD RW!. I believe that even the program to burn the restore discs indicates not to use RW (re-writeable) disks.
I would consider better quality disc brands such as Sony, Verbatim, HP, TDK (I have had problems with older TDK discs). Also, when having trouble burning it is always better to go to a lower disc speed than higher.
If I were you and DVD's weren't on sale this week, get a 5 pack of Sony DVD+R 4.7GB and give it a go. You will probably only need 3 DVD's for the set.
As a side note, I have 100 TDK 4X DVD+R media that I purchased about 5 years ago but didn't get around to using them until recently. I had bought three 100 packs of Sony DVD+R and had been using them since I really like the white non-recording surface to write notes on, probably my favorite discs. I needed to burn some discs for a friend so I decided to use the TDK discs and didn't want to use my Sony discs up. Well, guess what, the laptop in my sig. refuses to burn on the TDK media although my Sony desktop doesn't mind. I have never had one coaster with Sony media with either PC.
Edit: Please report back as to your outcome if you try with a getter quality disc. -
update - a friend of mines with the exact same laptop got a revovery cd straight from HP and lent it to me . I tried rebooting it with the cd, it would load and say windows loading files , for a couple minutes , then go to a blue screen with the mouse pointer moveable . a little black screen with words in it would pop up for a split second , something about a partition , then disappear . a little window would pop up after and say that the system can't be rebooted using the disc
.
I already gave up as I've been trying to figure this thing out for a long time and took it to a computer tech . he said it should be an easy fix running about $100-200 so I'll repost soon as I hear anything about it . -
Try Verbatim DVD-R. If it doesn't work with those then there is something wrong with your dvd-burner or recovery program.
