I am planning on getting a 8519p, only thing is the machine can get pricey. I noticed that there are some pretty sweet deals in HP outlet:

    HP 8510p XPP OR Duo2 T7500 2.2GHz 120GB 1GB DVD-CDRW 15.4WSXGA WLAN BT ATI HD 2600 256MB Rmkt NB PC
    $999.00

    HP 8510p XPP OR Duo2 T7300 2.0GHz 80GB 2GB DVDRW(LS) 15.4WXGA WLAN ATI HD 2600 256MB Rmkt NB PC
    $849.00

Has anyone had any experience with these refurbs?

I've had enough experience with HP to have to say 'not a good deal.' I've had a lot of parts replaced with refurb pieces, and they were not very good.

It all depends on the risks you want to take. I would say that if you do choose to purchase a refurbished laptop you better buy an extended warranty and also be prepared to send it in for repair.

Actually, if you did get a refurb...get a long warranty as Envision suggests, but get the at home service warranty. That way you can supervise any and all repairs and they send someone to you (usually within a few days).

HP's business warranty support is incredible. Its just the parts that need to be improved.

thanks that sounds nice, for $100 more I can get 3yrs international warranty. How do I know if it is "at home" though?

I got a HP 6320 refurb from the SMB outlet last year for someone in my family. Three year (depot) warranty and all that for a hair over $800 delivered. I thought it was a great deal and it came with a docking station/keyboard/mouse. When I received it, I was surprised to see that it was BRAND new. Not a refurb at all, but some corporate sale that went awry or something and returned to HP as a result.

It should say it there somewhere. "At home" or "on site" is the key.

I bought my Evo N620c refurbished from Compaq (now HP) four years ago. It's been great, and when anything has gone wrong with it it has been fixed quickly and returned promptly.

And FYI, the $100 warranty upgrade to 3 years is almost certainly depot, not onsite, repairs. Call the HP Outlet and ask about onsite warranties, their people are generally very helpful.
