Just got one of these - really like it but the battery life really sucks. In the UK we get them with 2 batteries as standard - the 4 cell and the 6 cell. This kinda helps but I was wondering if there was any way to charge the batteries out of the notebook. It seems pretty lame to have to tie the laptop to the PSU when you have a perfectly good, fully charged battery ready to go and all you need to do is to charge the empty one in the laptop!
Is there some external charger type thing available - I asked HP and they thought I was crazy and just couldn't see the point of such a thing!!

While an external charger seems to make sense, most that I have seen have been geared directly toward enterprise-level uses, with a charger having ports for 16 batteries for situations where users have to have their systems up all the time. The problem is, different notebook batteries connect different ways, so a universal adapter isn't possible, and the big companies probably feel there simply isn't enough profit to be made in putting out an end-user solution.

    Wow, 5 hours??!
I'd love to know how you manage that. I've turned off all unecessary processes, put the display to no more than 50% (very dim), put on every power saving option and never got more than 1hr 30 mins with the small battery and just over 2hrs 15 mins with the large one. If I dare to turn on the CD drive, I can flush those times down the toilet!!

    Please, do tell...

disable wireless and bluetooth if you're not going to use it. there's alot of others too but those drain the battery.
