I live in Australia and a few months ago I bought a HP Pavilion DV7t-1000 CTO from the US and since i got it, it has been having problems with the quickplay buttons. Only the WiFi and volume buttons work. And so about 2 months ago I contacted HP Support Australia and told them my problem, a week later they picked up my notebook and took it for repairs. I received a call from the third party company and they told me that it was all fixed and that i would only have to perform a system restore. So they dropped it off and when I did a system restore I found that not only did the quickplay buttons not work but now the number pad was not working!
I called the third party company and told them it was not working and they said that they do not have the "tools" to make the quickplay and number pad work. So they told me to contact HP Support USA, but first i called HP Support Australia one more time and was on the phone with them for 2 hours until the technician came to a conclusion that the parts are unavailable in Australia. But the EXACT same laptop was sold here before the revision. So... i called HP Support USA and they told me that I had to live in the USA to have it repaired, but in my warranty booklet it clearly states "...IF YOU ARE OUTSIDE THE COUNTRY WHICH THE PRODUCT WAS MARKETED, YOU MAY BE REQUIRED TO SHIP THE PRODUCT AT YOUR EXPENSE TO AN AUTHORIZED REPAIR CENTER..." which i am happy to do to get it fixed because i paid over AUD$2000 for this notebook. And no i have not dropped it or spilt anything on it. The notebook sat on a desk since I got it and I treat my electronics responsibly.
What do you guys think I should do?

Have you tried doing a recovery disc reinstallation? If that fails then time to call. Also maybe all you need is to reinstall the quickplay program and the number pad program?
-
The number pad not working is a hardware issue - he needs a new keyboard.
I don't know anything about the quickplay buttons, but you could probably find a keyboard on eBay for about $50 and replace it yourself if you're mechanically inclined. -

Ok! So I called HP USA again TWICE! and the first "technician" was an asian lady that told me there was NOTHING she could do and I told her it states that i can ship it at my expense to a repair center and she put me on hold for 10 minutes and told me that I had to send it to an address in the US and to have them send a box to that address and to pick it up. Then i told her again that I would pay for shipping and she said the same thing she said earlier but slower. I then told her how can I have an address in the US when i am from overseas and she hung up on me! EXCELLENT customer service!
Then I called again and FINALLY talked to an American, and she did some research and found that since I am willing to pay for shipping that I will have to call HP Australia, tell them that I called HP USA and ask for the claim to be escalated to a Quality Case Manager and they would decide if I can send the notebook to HP Australia and have them send it to HP USA but I would have to pay all shipping costs. -

I am so sorry for your troubles. It make me sad to hear such lame customer service.

I know, i mean i paid AUD$2000 for this notebook and it has a global warranty. I did a warranty check and it states "Global Warranty"

NCSS (third party company) returned my laptop and told me it worked and when i called them said to call HP USA and I called HP USA 4 times! So i am seriously considering sueing HP Australia if they do not fix it.

Just a question, If you live in a decent county like Australia why did you bought your laptop from another place ?
-
Usually you can save yourself at least a couple of hundred dollars by importing from the US.
The same applies to essentially all electronic goods in NZ, and to a lesser extent Australia.
