Hello, I have an hp dv9000 and was wondering what I need to press to load the recovery at startup before it reaches windows? How do I get to the recovery console without the use of a Windows Cd? I just got a Blue Screen of Hive Death and don't know what else to do.Thank you.

F11 is what I have to press on my DV8000T.

F8 to go into safe mode and all that stuff.
I you are talking about recovering to factory image, you need to back up your data first. -
When the pc boots up it should show a f(something) to boot to recovery console
Once there I would run chkdsk /f
Also, if you press f8 (prior to xp splash screen, same for safe mode access)(do it from a Manual shutdown, not auto-reboot for more options in f8), in the list you should have the option to disable automatic reboot, at that point you can see the BSOD and write down the Stop:0x0 error, post there here for further troulbeshooting.
If you can't get into that option, see if you can get into safe mode, if so go to start>run>regedit
go to - Hkey_Local_Machine/system/currentcontrolset/control/crashcontrol/autoreboot and change the value from 1 to 0, and reboot your pc, this will allow you to see the BSOD and get the Stop:0x0 error as well -

It's F11 (repeatedly, before the windows boot screen appears) to get the HP recovery manager. If you're doing this because your hard drive is hosed I hope you burnt the recovery DVDs. Here's the guide I used last week.
