I ordered a new envy 17 but did not get the care pack. I looked and the 3 year with AD is on sale for $170 and was curious what people thought. Laptop was almost $1200 so I would hate so damage it and be out. I will also be adding my own ram and second he'd but I don't think it voids any warranty. Did you or would you get the care pack? How is hp with honoring them?

I should also ask how long you have to add it. I would with the AD not long.

I got the care pack on my envy 1xxx, as did one of my friends, and all I can say is beware.
In his case, they replaced a beautiful 1600x900 screen with a 1366x768 piece of crap screen. They didnt even tell him they did it, and he never would have known save for my sharp eye.
In my case they first tried to BS me that I didnt have a warranty. After getting through that, I sent my computer back to get a new charger and keyboard. They sent it back with a new keyboard, and no charger. They also saw fit to STEAL MY HDD, sending my laptop back with an EMPTY HDD bay. Of course I complained; HP sent out a new HDD. The new drive they sent was the WRONG SIZE (320 not 500). I was sent a second drive of the correct size, with Win7 reinstall CD's that don't work (make your own). HP then threatened me with legal action when I didnt send the 320gb drive back to them in a timely fashion.
The entire repair was worth less than what I paid for the 3 year plan. I don't think that I'd buy the plan again.
Edit: I have the skills to do a keyboard repair ($50 parts) and replace charger (~$50 maybe), and could do many other repairs myself, this affects my decision not to get get accidental / ext warranty's anymore. -
When the screen on my envy 14 died they told me that the parts were going to take 3 weeks to get in and I told them that I need the laptop sooner than that for my online summer classes and they gave me the option to either wait the 3 weeks or accept the payout. So needless to say I took the 1350.00 dollars and ordered a new laptop.
Plus if they do need to do a payout they have the ability to reimburse via paypal so as long as you have a paypal account you can have you money in 1-3 days. -
I bought the Care Pack a few years back on an older laptop and it was one of the most single emotionally upsetting experiences that I have ever had in my life when it came time to use it. I was esculated and was assigned a tech. He never would call me back. I left message after message after message. If I ever got anyone else....they wouldn't touch me with a 10 foot pole....they kept putting me to the same guy who would never answer and never call back. I spent hours and hours and hours........on the phone BEGGING for someone to help me! I was in this loop and COULD NOT get out!!!! So needless to say that I got no one that CARED pertaining to my Care Pack
