    hi guys,

Can someone please clarify for me how this all works for the HP-DV6? (im talking the i5 version)

As I understand it, it has 2 gpu's an intel and an ATI 5650 which you can switch between.

How does this switch work? can you manually switch or does it guess by some piece of software? (any problems with the technology?)

2nd what about ATI drivers? Can you use the newest Catalyst drivers on this or are you 100% stuck and depended HP releasing drivers? (can ATI's drivers be modded somewhat like we see nvidia drivers are?)

Thanks in advance, I wanna make 100% sure I know what's going on before buying this laptop.

You switch by software, which you can do manually or automatically. The automatic one only determine which graphic to use based which power source, AC or battery power.

It pretty primitive compared to Nvidia's Optimus.

We are pretty much stuck dependent on HP releasing the graphic drivers if you want stability. You could update from the ATI indirectly, but be ready for some headache later on.

Damn, I don't know.. Nvidias optimus is the biggest nightmare in modern notebooks, do not with ati ends there. Can anyone confirm if the switchable stuff works with Starcraft 2?? I'm very close to buying this laptop but... I don't want the same problems as with nvidia.

Yes it does work, however ATI have no AA support for SC2 atm...you wont it in a long time. It does look really jagged at native resolution.

Nvidia's Optimus is looking good pretty good to me but currently released in a limited for casual "gaming" at the moment.

Thanks, performance also good in native res? At like medium? The m11x is having so many problems with the optimus.

You can play high or almost ultra at native. I haven't play 3v3 or 4v4, but I don't expect much of it at all.

Single is playable but a few hiccup here and here.

The game is pretty cpu heavy though

Ah cool! Yeah that's why I'm think about the 2.56 ghz i5 and not the 1.6 ghz i7. More pure ghz power which seems to be what sc2 is all about
