I had a decent configuration set up and almost ordered it, but i stumbled across the topic about the dv8000t and keyboard issues. It seems like ALOT of people have this issue yet it doesnt seem like there is a real solution to the problem, and from what i've heard, hp support is abysmal. Is it worth the risk of getting a crap keyboard? I was thinking about the asus s96j from powernotebooks, but it doesnt seem like it will ever come back in stock.

    oh i had this config:

    core duo 1.83
1gb 533 ram (free upgrade from 512) - i was going to replace with 2gb of 667 OCZ
    80 gb 5400 (free upgrade from 60)
    17inch bright view 1440 x 900
    256mb nvidia go 7600
    super multi dvd/rw
    2 yr warranty

thats the imporant stuff: came out to 1280ish with mail in rebates and academic program discount.

sigh...would have been perfect, but i'm so scared now because of the keyboard issue.

Just another one to throw in there, have you tried looking at the Hel 80. Many people seem to prefer the Hel 80 over the s96j, and can also be found off of the powernotebooks.com site. Here is a thread link....

As for HP support, I have never had any problems with their support. Then again I never had an actual hardware issue. Many times using chat support will help you get answers faster. You have more time to think and process exactly what you want without the pressure of a yapping customer rep.

Wait for the dv9000 to come out, with the new sleek design.

Keyboard on my dv2000t is great.

the hel80 is more expensive by a significant amount and the gpu seems to be underclocked from what i've read. i've already considered it. thanks though.
