I have an Hp dv8284ea and i wonder if i could upgrade to 4gb of Ram and replacing the 1024 MB DDR2 533Mhz (2x512). I consider to buy 2 Kingston 200-pin SODIMM DDR2 PC2-5300 667MHz 2GB. Is this compatible?...or my laptop couldn t see 4gb of ram?And could be able to run at 667mhz? Is it worth to upgrade ram so no need to upgrade ram again or i should go to a pair of 1gb ram (2x1gigs)?
P.S.-> My OSs are windows xp sp2(32bit) and Vista Ultimate(32bit)
    P.S.-> Sorry for bad english
    Thanx in advance.

I don't see why not. I use Kingston and no problem here. Got a decent deal of $62 for each stick. From reading other threads I believe the bios is the limitation on ram. You might have to wait to go higher until they come out with an update for that. Others have put in 4gb but the machine only recognized 3.4 or something like that. Frankly everything rolls pretty good with 2gb. I'd have to wait until my usage and system really felt strained before I'd chuck in more.

@samov what kind of problems do you have? Could you be more analytical?
So we hope hp for an update for bios or they will follow the policy, to support 2gb+ ram only for newest models? Is kingston the best choice to upgrade Ram?...other choices? -i dont care about the money instead of better performance.

The BIOS, like 32-bit OS's, isn't able to see all 4GB of RAM. Install a 64-bit OS like Linux or 64-bit Vista and you'll be fine.

well... kingston uses different chips on the same product line... i had to change 3 pairs before i got them working 100% stable on my core 2 duo...

crucial is in fact Micron... and they ARE the best in the business..

will the 4GB RAM upgrade work on a DV9000T ??
any recommendations on what kind and speed of stick will work ??
anywhere I can get it for a reasonable price ??

Also in Windows 2000/2003 and XP you would need the /PAE switch in the boot.ini file to help the OS detect anything above 4GB. Since the total is 4096 (above 4000MB) the OS cannot detect it and it lowers down to the next number which is 3.6GB (3584MB). Though M$ said that this option wasn't needed for Windows 2003 with SP1 or later, but we have found that not to be true and the /PAE switch still has to be added to get the OS detect anything over 4GB.
You can try this switch and see if you see the full 4GB on your laptop.

i just got the dv2500t and put 4gb of memory in there - works like a charm

vista 32bit shows 3gb, vista 64bit shows all 4gb (bios shows 4 regardless)

That`s interesting you can run 4gb memory on this machine. Because according to hp ; maximum memory of dv2500t is 2gb.

Actually it`s normal that vista32 bit shows 3gb and vista64 bit shows 4 gb.
can you tell me what the bios shows after you installed 4 gb ? it shows 4 gb or less ?

and did you update your bios ? or you get 4gb on vista64 bit factory loaded bios ?
