ok to start off I updated my vid drivers to the most recent nvidia driver and it has been downhill from that point! When i boot up it shows bars on the screen and will not load windows so i shutdown and load using safe mode which starts right up but still has red artifacts on the screen, i then uninstall the nvidia driver and reboot windows now it loads up properly still has the red artifacts though. So now it is using a standard vga driver then i install a different nvidia driver and get the same problems![]()
I fear i may need a new mboard, would i be able to fit a better mboard/gpu in this chassis if it turns out my gpu is dead? think this may fall under a recall or something?
sorry for my somewhat incoherent paragraphs I'm typing this on my Htc touch cause i have nothing else atm!

I HAD EXCACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM BUT NOW MY VIDEO IS DEAD, HP REPAIR IT FOR $400 + shipping.
I found MOBO for dv9000 series on ebay.com in $100...
PLEASE CONTACT ME TO SEE WHAT WE CAN DO Regards -
According to HP's web site, that model came with a 2Yr warrenty...Are you still under that warrenty?
There is no current recall for this model.
As far as putting in a "better" motherboard, not much luck there. You can put DV9500/9700/9900 series boards that have 512M video RAM instead of the 256Meg yours came with, but thats about it. The board layout is different on the DV-7 series, so those motherboards would not work.
If you decide to replace the motherboard, make sure you get the right one, though your computer is part of the DV9000 series, the laptops with numbers below DV9500 use a different motherboard. You're looking at least $190us for a new board.
If you are adventurous, there are threads here that discuss ways to repair your existing board. -
Motherboard replacement will end up the same issue at the longest a year after.
As Nvidia statement, this is "the combination of the interaction between the chip material set and system design".
Temporary fix is reflowing your motherboard using heat gun. If you did it right it will withstand for an other year. -
Hi, this is the mobo model we need: 447983-001 there are many on ebay.com around $200 bucks i heard that 447982-001 works too for our dv9543cl and its $50 cheaper, the only difference is that it comes with 128Mb Intel Video and not with the 256Mb 8600m Nvidia.

Anyone have any really good places to purchase laptop mboards?
I found this one place with google shopping
http://laptops-motherboard.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=310
I think this is a direct replacement of my current mboard? -
the shop said they where able to get the laptop running properly for about 30mins and then they get artifacts again
so they said the nvidia 8600M GS is dead
. Now I have no laptop for awhile and no money to fix or buy another so I guess I'm out of luck for awhile

These dv9000 series laptops are so faultily designed, only the real users will be able to know how it feels. My second system board replacement happened a week back. This is the summary of the repairs my notebook has endured since it was bought in July 2007.
1st service, January 2008: Keyboard and Fan replaced
2nd service,September 2008: System Board replaced
3rd service,April 2009: Quick launch buttons replaced, Optical Drive replaced
4th service,September 2009: LCD panel replaced,System Board replaced.
Warranty till November 2010. Expecting another fault within the next 6 months.
I am so tired of HP Notebooks right now, I turn my face away in disgust when I visit a laptop showroom. -

Myself also no exception. I have been using their products since the last seven years. Printers, Compaq laptops and then two years back this so called Pavilion Entertainment PC. Good entertainment for HP that they are ripping us off. You contact them by mail.No reply. You send them a complaint request. Still the same old BS about service centers and apologies. You post in their support forums. Your comments get deleted.
Money is hard earned and before making a purchase decision, I normally sit down and do a thorough analysis of all brands before selecting a particular product. It may simply be anything-a digital camera, a notebook, an LCD TV, a washing machine or even a refrigerator. There are factors like reliability, consistency, price/performance and finally product reviews which go into the customer’s mind when he/she makes their decisions. At least for the record I follow this process and I expect the company on the other side to honour the commitment and faith reposed by me on its products. -
I have same computer my computer wont even post i suspect its the nvidia video adapter. Anyway i bought might and just barely the two year warrenty on the suck expired. My Dvd rw drive will no longer read or write cds only dvd disks. anyway thats not that big of a deal... well i did buy mine using amaerican express filed claim and just received check for 1396.40 thats what i paid for the damn thing. i was going to buy a new computer but it seems illy if i can repair it for less then 350 and upgrade the mobo... i want to upgrade it but do not know what mother board to upgrade it to that would fit. on top of it i can not find anywhere they list the specs on the baord such as the type of video card processor. or if it has esata port or not.. my board does not have one but these newer computer have one of the usb ports double as esata and usb so i dont see why i couldnt use a board that has the usb converted to esata. anyway any helpful insight will be great.
would really like to know how to view the specs of these different boards using part number or whatever means.
