I have had my Envy 14 for about 1 month now and think it is well worth the buy. My only complaint is that it has hard freezed on me five times so far, two today. Every time it has happend while I am browsing the web at a cool 40 degrees C. I own the i3 and use an external mouse through the usb, any ideas?
    Thanks
Edit: it has happend on both the ati and the integrated cards i believe.

try running the hard-drive diagnostic from the bios. (rapidly mash f10 when you turn the computer on to get to the bios).

I get the same thing and apparently I have a faulty hard-drive or something. It fails for me on the comprehensive test (second hdd test, runs after the first quick 15 minute test finishes)

I haven't gotten around to replacing it yet and don't feel like sending my computer in to HP since they wanted the whole thing (...which yeah...screw it, I'll eventually buy a $60 hdd offa newegg or wait for the ssds to get cheaper or something instead)

This is what fixed hard freezing for me.

-> Update your ATi drivers to the most current one (10.8 I believe).
-> Update the BIOS to something above F.12 (F.13 right now)
-> Go to your Power Settings in Control Panel, choose the plan you're using and click on Advanced. From there navigate to your "Turn of Hard Disk Drive" and set it to "Never".

Ever since I've not experienced any hard freezing. I believe the main culprit was the BIOS, but it probably is the cumulative effect of all of the above.

    Hope this helps.

that happened to me with my toshiba hdd. I might have gotten a sort of freeze with my scorpio. but it might of just been the usb cable being dumb. need to see what happens next time.

I have model 14t-1000. It just happened again and it is quite annoying. When i press the power button the light will turn on for a second and turn off. I even hear the CD slot driving loading up and then it just stops. Right after I take the battery out it i have to wait another 20 seconds to try again before it starts to work :(
