hi guys, I just refunded my HP envy 15 due to auto restarting and purple webcam issue. Recently, the retail sale rep offer me a cheaper price but also free delivery to UK. Im confuse now because I just ordered my Sony Vaio Z series. I feel like getting back the envy due to the design and high spec. Before i make up my mind i want to know is the:-
1)Purplish webcam issue solved?
2)320 SSD is it raid? if not, can it be raid?
3)Does it support TRIM?
If i choose envy my spec is 17 820, 4gb ram, 320 ssd, 15 "full hd, battery sliced. = £2000
my current ordered sony is i7 620m, 8 gb, 13" full HD, 256 raid o ssd, WWAN. £ 2569.
Hp Envy built quality are slightly poor. I find many issues.
Guys could you recommend me stick with my sony order or Hp order
Thanks to you guys in advance.

1) According to the thread on this forum about the purplish webcam, yes, it's been solved.
2) Yes, they arrive in RAID0.
3) TRIM is not supported in RAID. Some Envys arrive with G1s and some with G2s. G1s don't support TRIM.
I personally don't recommend the i7 Envy - the battery life is very short (though the slice will alleviate that) and it gets quite a bit hotter than the i5, but if you're set on an i7 machine, it's certainly not a bad one.
Two thousand pounds is way too much money for an Envy, though, and 2569 is even more way too much for a Sony. I don't know what kind of deals you get in the UK, but that machine should run you (with a coupon) about USD 2000-2200 depending on your options. Unless VAT just kills you that much :/ -
can you lead me to the thread where the webcam issue been solved?
So, how do i actually check im having an gen 1 ssd or gen 2 ssd when my envy arrived?
I normallly used my laptop on ac power without the battery os is still ok for me.
Thanks for your help -
Turns out the 'webcam solved' thread I saw was about something else. Looks like it's only sort-of solved:

You can check if you have G1s or G2s with the Intel Matrix Storage manager (or the newer version .... whatever it's called, I forget). It will have a long string for the model number, and in that string will be 'G1' or 'G2.'
If you get G1s there's not much you can do except return it and re-order. For a while it looked like everybody was getting G1s but it seems that, very recently, a couple people have got G2s. -
where do you find "Intel Matrix Storage Manager" can you guide me please
Ok thanks for your info. I will try asking my sales rep about it. Thank you.
Do you find any issue for your envy 15? -
It's called Intel Rapid Storage Technology now. It's the second thing in this thread:

I like my Envy quite a lot. I got G1s but am keeping them. -
Got mine today from john lewis for £1499 (i7 720/8gb/ ati HD 5830/ 500gb hdd)
can someone tell me is it possible to install 2nd hdd?
Is there any clean install guide? -
Clean install guide is stickied in the main HP forum.
It can have 2 1.8" HDDs or 1 2.5" HDD. I think the 500GB one is a 2.5", so you'd have to replace it with two smaller ones unless I'm mistaken about the 500GB disk being 2.5".
Hp envy 15 gen 2 issue solved?
