looking at purchasing one from futureshop, getting a decent discount, it has the i7 6gb of ram, 4830 graphics. It comes with both 6 cell and 9 cell, my question is, that is there anyway for me to get 3 hours from the 6 cell battery, with just office and wifi. Is there a way to underclock the processor a lot to do this, disable cores temporarily

No way to get 3 hours realistically. Not with a i7 burning through the battery life.

Download Battery Eater. It's much more accurate than the built in estimates after a few charge cycles.

HP has a bad habit of removing that feature from their consumer lines from the Bios, downloading a third party software is the best alternative.

use Battery Bar. It gives lots of info about your battery life.
