If you don't use the NVIDIA Desktop Manager, which is the small icon that appears in your taskbar you can disable all three Nvidia entries. Personally I don't bother because I can just open my control panel real quick, and I hate extra stuff running that I don't need.
What is the Microsoft startup entry in detail? That could be a possible disable as well but without the full name I can't tell you.

Did you disable or set to manual anything in the services.msc? There is allot of crap in there you don't need.. like tablet support. Also in the services in msconfig I disabled superfetch.. I know most people may want to keep that but if you see your HD running like heck for 3 or 4 minutes after startup, thats probably it. I found this to be useless MS vista bloatware. There are a bunch of guides on helping you decide what you can take out of services on the net. Usually, its best to use services.msc instead of msconfig to lean out services in vista. But in the case of superfetch, I disabled that completely in the services tab in msconfig.. If you really want to speed things up, you have to go into services as well.. not just startup folder.

Just remember, Its just as easy to enable them as it is to disable. I agree, its a bit of experimentation, but its not permanent. You can always go back and enable. This list of services on this site really helped me. It is a list of the most common services that many configurations can do without.. And they have very nice descriptions giving you a good idea of what they do. http://vistarewired.com/2007/02/18/services/
I can't remember but I think I disabled about 4 of them and I had a noticeable boost in performance. -
Why didn't you just do a clean OS install -
I don't think HP includes the anytime upgrade DVD anymore. I know I did not get one with my dv6500t system last week and others that have received systems as of late reported the same. I tweaked the startup, services.msc and uninstalled most of the bloat. HP did the work to root out Vongo in the registry and my system still seems to take 2 minutes to boot up after doing a full shut down.
My question is how long does a dv6500t take to boot from a clean install? When I briefly had a Dell 1420 it booted in 45 seconds from the factory. The Dell had the same OS, same chip set/gpu, and about the same options. If I can get this machine to boot in a minute or less.. I will probably also do a fresh install.. I just ordered a anytime upgrade dvd from compusa for 5 bucks. I called HP and asked for one and bascially was scolded for even asking. They just told me that fresh installs are not allowed bla bla bla. -
Could someone tell me what the items I have highlighted are for?
