    hi all,
I am new here, and i am about to buy a laptop, i have narrowed my decision to these last three laptops. I only use the laptop for internet browsing, watching live sporting events(so i need a good video card) and gaming. I guess the main difference bwt these three are that 2 of them are P4 and the other one is a Athon 64. Can someone guide me thru the pros and cons of AMD 64 and P4.

    Oh yes,
The 12 cell is definitly worth the 25 bucks.[ :p] Memory management is better in the zv5000z. Heat generation is much less.

    Cheers,

    Stevo

The Athlon 64 has much better power management than the P4, it's ready for 64-bit WinXP (64-bit Linux has been out for many months), and it has Enhanced Virus Protection (hardware-assisted buffer overrun protection enabled by WinXP SP2). Definitely favor the Athlon 64.

The dedicated memory GPU in the zv5000z, while weak, is still far better than the shared memory video in the two P4 notebooks you listed. I strongly recommend the 12-cell battery upgrade ($25).

    Hi guys,

I am seriously thinking about picking up an HP zv5000z. Everything fits my needs, but i had one question. How "weak" is the video card/graphics processing? I read that the gpu in this notebook is 3 yrs old? Does that mean some of the newer games can't be played on it? Can i play GTA San Andreas on it next week, for example?

    thanks

You can play it, it just won't look very good. There are several other companies that build Athlon 64 notebooks with proper video chips, or wait for HP to release new notebooks (the zv5000z/R3000z series is 7 months old). Great notebooks for everything except gaming.
