    Hello Everyone,

This is more of a external hardware question
than anything other listed on this forum.

I purchased a hp laptop in Canada with a keyboard that displays 3-4 functions on some of the keys.

    Question is,
    How do these/each keys function?
does a complimentary key have to be pressed in simultaneously with each multi-function keys ?

    Hp does not know,
neither does the retailer from which i prurchased the comp.

Can you post a picture of the keyboard?

Those multiple letters could be just printed there for different language layouts.

I see those often when keyboard is labeled Nordic, because there is just 3-4 letters difference between finnish/swedish, norwegian and danish layouts.

Simple manufacturer's solution was to print all those differing letters in the keys, thus same laptop model can be sold in whole scandinavia.

Those extra functions can be used, but I have yet to discover how. I know this because I am in Canada and family in the UK have very similar keyboard with more than two functions, they press Alt Gr keys to use the third or forth function on those keys.....except my Canadian keyboard doesn't have a Gr key. It must be similar to the Fn key for the dual function F keys. I have yet to figure it out. May need something changing in Control Panel.

AltGr is defined in the language layout, it isn't any special key like the Fn key is.

Basically if you just change your keyboard layout to british english, you would get AltGr functionality except the letters aren't printed on your keyboard. Assuming that it is the layout used in your example :)

Have you tried the ctrl, alt, and/or fn keys to get those extra characters to show up? If it's not one or more of those, I'm at a loss, though you could give it a broader search, since there are bound to be threads here or elsewhere where people ask a similar question.
