So I was cleaning off my laptop today and pressed to hard on the lower right corner of the screen. The screen does not appear to be cracked, instead it appears to be indented, because of this some type of gooey stuff leaked onto the main screen. I called HP Technical Support up asking them how much it would cost to replace the monitor, they told me $700. I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions on how to make the gooey stuff go away.

check computer stores to see if they can replace it, or if you can locate a screen elsewhere. and make sure it doesn't leak inside mobo area. then you'll really have to throw the whole thing away..

You cracked the screen. The Liquid part of the Liquid Crystal Display is leaking out. Cheapest way to get a screen is to hit up eBay.

The guy had the nerve to tell me to buy a new laptop, I laughed at him and said this thing cost me nearly $2,000!

    Suggestion:
I once had a hp service rep tell me when i had a bunch of scratches on my screen from wiping it with a paper towel, that if the laptop is less than a year old, then i should buy the hp accidental warranty of the website for about 120 bucks i think it was, an then claim it as an accident. Your repair will be done free of charge and your not doing anything wrong since any hp laptop owner can buy the accidental warranty up to a year before its original warrenty end date.

It is not ethical to buy a protection plan to make a claim for pre-existing damage.
What is right is right and what is wrong is wrong.

yes your correct about ethical resposibilities

but it isnt right for HP to charge $700 for a $250 LCD screen either

You can tell the difference between "that's bad" and "unethical" by asking yourself if you can be sued for it.

You can, and should, be sued if you buy a warranty after-the-fact and put a claim on it.

HP cannot, and should not be sued for "overcharging" for a part. Otherwise everyone would be getting sued (the $400 they used to charge for 4 GB of RAM, the insane amount everyone is charging for SSDs, any boutique computer, etc...)

Thank you guys for all of your replies, I would like to inform you that the goo from the cracked LCD screen has dried up, you can't even tell that it is cracked. I'm going to leave it as is since $700 is a ridiculous price to pay for a new LCD monitor. The area around the crack is not even effected, no color loss or discoloration can be seen, I am considering myself to be pretty lucky.

Once your warranty expires, you can get a better brand & resolution screen for about $200-300

Ebay has LCD for dv9500 for $176 I don't know if it is OEM. I found OEM LCD for dv9500t available for less than $300.
Just fyi if you need a screen as $700 is way too much and they are available for less.
