I just dropped by dv5t from about 3-4 feet high. It was on a stand and I accidently pushed the stand back and it fell on its top lid first and closed. Rushed to check it....its all good.

Who says HP makes poor quality products!

    You're just lucky.

Brand does not matter. Unless you have a Panasonic Toughbook.

Haha that reminds me of my M1330. I fell asleep and abruptly woke up, and kicked the computer off the bed and into a wall! Still works.

    edit:
The HPs do seem solid. They ought to be, they are freaking heavy and thick.

Yep, you got lucky. I'm glad though, I've heard enough sad stories of laptops breaking.

Good to see that your laptop is working good :). It reminds me of the time when I dropped my 1420 from my backpack, thankfully it landed on its bottom and ended up alright.

I'm shocked it didn't break your display... o_o Though, as has already been suggested, I have a feeling the harddrive's safety is due to the ProtectSmart guard which shuts down the drive in the event of sudden movement.

Can't say I want to find out how durable my HP is that way. Though I have knocked it around a bit (small desk area) and it seems to not have been harmed.

Me too. I accidentally knocked my dv5t a little bit on a desk yesterday at work while I was putting it back in my bag. Sometimes I'm too careful with it I end up damaging it more than if I was using it normally.

I would have panicked so much if I dropped it from that high up though. I'm just paranoid because my last laptop (sony vaio) has hardware BSODs right now and I have reason to believe that was simply from travelling with it as I've never damaged it.

That's why I opted for HP this time. The dv5t case is really durable, it just has that feel of a well-built design.
