I purchased this in 2011 December, these are the specs:

    HP Envy 15 - LY277AV - 15t-3000
    • Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
    • 2nd generation Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2670QM (2.2 GHz, 6MB L3 Cache) with Turbo Boost up to 3.1 GHz
    • 1GB Discrete Graphics AMD Radeon(TM) [HDMI, DP]
    • 8GB 1600DDR3MHz System Memory (2 Dimm)
    • 500GB 7200 rpm Hard Drive
    • No Additional Office Software
    • 8 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
    • 15.6-inch diagonal Radiance Full HD Infinity LED-backlit Display (1920 x 1080)
    • SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-R/RW with Double Layer Support
    • HP TrueVision HD Webcam
    • Intel 802.11a/b/g/n WLAN and Bluetooth(R) with Wireless Display Support
    • Full-size Radiance backlit keyboard
    • Adobe(R) Photoshop(R) Elements 9 & Adobe Premiere(R) Elements 9
    • 2 year limited warranty included
    • HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope

I've come to realize 8gb 1600mhz isn't enough for me so i decided to upgrade to 16gb 1600mhz (When i was selecting the components to send into production, there WAS a 16gb option but i opted for the 8gb)

SO every time i go to install 2 brand new 8gm ram cards (16gb in total), the same stupid problems occurs. The computer will run fine for about 15 mins, then suddenly RESTART !!!

The same reaction occurred with these same-spec'd ram brands:

    Corsair Vengeance CMSX16GX3M2A1600C10 16GB 2X8GB DDR3-1600 CL10-10-10-27 204PIN SODIMM Memory Kit
    Corsair Vengeance CMSX16GX3M2A1600C10 16GB 2X8GB DDR3-1600 CL10-10-10-27 204PIN SODIMM Memory Kit

    G.SKILL SQ Series 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 1600MHz CL11 SODIMM Memory (F3-1600C11D-16GSQ)
    Canada Computers | Memory | G.SKILL SQ Series 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 1600MHz CL11 SODIMM Memory (F3-1600C11D-16GSQ)

Is this a problem that has appeared on this forum before!???

It's something that i really want to have done, im just doing a simple ram upgrade, not anything too complicated

PLEASE somebody give me some insight on this

    thanks !!!!

Run Memtest86+ on the memory modules and see if you detect any errors. This could be causing the reboot once the bad memory is used. I just upgraded to 16GB on my ENVY 17 and the first set I got had errors so I sent it back for a replacement, which was fine.

    thank you for the insight

i mean that's good advice, but i tried two different brands, same problem, i have a feeling this situation has something to do with compatibility

any one here with an envy 15 (late 2011) upgrade from 8 - 16?
