First off nice forum.
I have a DV2419, with an AMD Turion 64x2. It had been progressively running hotter and hotter as I owned it. Then recently it would freeze (the screen would flash up a weird pattern) and I would have to restart. I thought it was some virus, so i turned it on and scanned it. I think it got too hot after a few times and now it wont turn on. The lights turn on, but I get no response from the screen or anything else.
I used your guide to take it apart, and the gummy substance between the heat sink and the amd looked kind of melted. Did I destroy it? I probably did but I have no idea how to figure it out. I really dont know what im doing. Please help me, I cant afford a new laptop. Should I buy a new chip? what tests can i perform?

The gummy substance you speak of is supposed to be like that; it ensures heat transfer from the CPU to the heat sink with maximum efficiency.
Unfortunately, it is likely that your dv24xx falls under this technical bulletin (it also exhibits the symptoms of the problem well enough):

According to this warranty enhancement, HP will repair (for free) defective units that are also within 1 year outside the standard manufacturer's warranty. -

Most likely, your GPU has failed. Although, its most likely defective though anyway.
HP should fix it under warranty, or the Extended Warranty in the link above.
BTW, that gummy stuff, is called Thermal Paste. Dont take it off. Leave it on there. -

I just called HP and they are going to fix it! Thanks guys, I didnt even call them before because my 1yr warranty is up, but it is covered under the service enhancement.
Gee you think they would have fixed that one of the times i sent it back when it was under warranty.
THANKS! -
No problem and good luck with that notebook.
I Think I let it get too hot for too long, please help me.
