I just bought an HP dv9930us from Circuit City on August 22. Since then I have had 10 blue screen errors, several hangups, and blank black screens on boot up. I had to restart my computer 8 times within the past hour because I could not get past the black screen on boot.
My computer then put up a screen that said "unable to start" and then proceeded to repair it. I had to do that twice.
I contacted HP and they said that I would have to backup my data and do a system restore. My question is will that really work and solve my problems or is my computer a lemon? Will they replace it if it continues not to work properly? I cannot afford another computer and it is mandatory to have a laptop for the classes that I am taking this semester. Will they charge me for a replacement?
I didn't know that I would have to return it to CC within 14 days instead of 30 and now I feel cheated out of my money.

I would take it back to CC anyway. Did you get the warranty? I found CC to screw you over when it comes to thier warranty & everything else. I went back to buying exclusively from BB again. I personally would try returning it anyway & if its been defective since you got it & they wont take it back I hope you paid with a credit card, you can talk to your credit card co & some will charge back to the store.. I had an HP laptop before this one & it was just a POS. I was told it would run pretty much anything. well yeah but it would also cook an egg as hot as it got. I thought I had 3 yr warranty & it broke 10 days after the 2 yr warranty I paid $300 for & woulda got 3 yr at BB for same one. THey wouldnt budge. Never again will I shop there or buy HP. I wish you luck!

make sure it has Service pack 1

Surely if cc didn't help you, you have a manufacturers warranty on it. I would go to HP get them to sort the issue out. You've had it no more 4 weeks, so you should be covered.

I would go ahead and run the system recovery on the unit and see what happens. After that if you still get the errors call hp and have it shipped in to be serviced.

try to chat with HP technician nd they will walk you through how to fix it. If thy think it is impossible to do it they will tell ask you to send it to them or something.

Good luck -
Warranty repair is covered and you don't have to pay for anything including shipping and handling both ways. HP will send you a pre-paid box to place your laptop in and even offers free pick-up from FedEx. If you made a recovery disk maybe you can try that first or recover from the partition.. f12 on bootup
