I didnt know where else to ask this but I know someone here might be abl eto help me.

Its a P4 so I need all I can get and I am not even running anything. My ram is fine and I'm not running much if anything in my tool tray. I've only got 37 processes running and I have a 1 and a quarter gigs of ram. What could be making my processor go crazy? Symptoms also include making the fan run 100% of the time.

    It is an older zv5000.

Please any ideas are good ones.

What is spoolsv.exe? I think that is the problem??

Edit: I end that process and it opens itself back up. It has to be the issue. How do i get rid of it for good? I dont use a network printer so it shouldn't effect the printing.

I would download ProcessExplorer (link in my signature) and run it and see what is taking up your CPU.

I believe spoolsv.exe is the Printer Spooler, which handles print jobs and such. Strange that that would be taking up 50% CPU, if that is the culprit. Go to Services and restart the print service.

I had that same problem. It turned out be a virus that duplicated common processes that you use and it lags up your computer.

Go grab trial versions of NOD 32 and BitDefender. Install them each at different times. You don't want them installed at the same time. I suggest using BitDefender first as NOD 32 should be kept in general. Boot up into Safe Mode and scan your computer.

If the above doesn't work, it may just be a corruption in your Print Spooler. If you don't have a printer hooked up, just disable the service.

I would just reinstall XP on your laptop. Im not sure if the ZV5000 has recovery built in but if it does run it. But to warn you it will delete everything off your laptop
