yup its a good buy! see how you like the performance in Vista and if its kinda sluggish then maybe you need to pay about $100 more to get 2 x 1GB sticks of RAM and sell the ones you have

Performance is actually quite well. It is very fast and smooth. This is the fastest machine that I've ever had before.

Not at all. I really don't hear any buzzing noise at all. It is very quiet. I'm glad I got this laptop. This is my very first one.

Surprisingly, I'm actually pleased with Windows Vista. I have Vista Home. (I believe that is what it is called.) Most of the programs that I use will either work with it or there are drivers for my programs to work with Vista.

This is a very nice laptop. Thanks for the advice you've all given me on other threads! They've really helped me out. God bless!

You got quite a deal. As mentioned above, the easiest way to make it even better will be to replace the 1GB RAM (2 512MB modules) for 2GB RAM (make sure you get matching 1GB modules). Newegg.com has some good offerings.

    Congratulations.

If you have Home Premium, I would definitely do so in the future. The system performance will be even better. :)

    Congrats on your purchase!

I'm wanting to get more memory but I don't know what brand to get nor do I know where to buy the memory from. I'm very confused... (I might possibly upgrade my storage too later on)

One more thing... Someone said that if you upgrade something on your laptop, your warranty will become void. What does this mean?

Newegg.com is a good place to look for memory. They are fast, reliable, and very good about returns.

Usually, brands like Corsair, Kingston, OCZ, Patriot, etc. are very reliable and trusted by DIYers. Make sure you know which kind to get (you can always use the memory tool on newegg or open up the laptop and look at the chips themselves) and make sure you get 2 of the same ones because dual channel will only work with two of the same kind of modules.

Your warranty isn't void if you upgrade internal parts like harddrive or memory, but those new upgraded parts are not covered under the HP's warranty. This means if you have to send your computer in for repairs, you'll need to put the original memory or harddrive in before shipping it or else HP won't repair it.

Speaking of which, I would highly NOT recommend selling the 2x512MB memory chips that will come with your laptop because, as I said before, you'll need to put those back in if you send the computer in for repair. Can't do that if you sell it on ebay or something. Hold on to it, use it on some other laptop (if you have one that needs it) but don't let go of them until your warranty expires.

I have found a very good deal on CRUCIAL 1GB ram. Here is the page. It's only 35.50 for each stick of 1GB ram. I'm getting it, and it works on the dv6000z line so it's guaranteed to work.

Well, thats not really a 100% requirement. All a system needs to run the memory in dual channel is 2 equal sized memory sticks. It does not have to be the same brand or sold in pairs as a kit.

These days with flex memory some of the newer chipsets even allow dual channel operation with unequal sized memory modules.
