So there's this file on my computer that I just can not get rid of. I downloaded it from the internet. I sent it from my work email (while I was at work) to my home email, due to the fact that I didn't have my flash drives. So when I downloaded this file using firefox web browser it created two files. Although I only emailed one. Weird right, well this is just the start. So i did what I needed to do with the file then, thats when I noticed the file that was there. I tried to delete it and it wouldn't delete. Everytime I tried to delete it, my pc would slow down... a lot. I tried to take care of it with Norton, but once again. When i try to rename the file, it does't let me. I tried restoring to a point from last night and it failed. I tried scanning the file for viruses and it's still running. It's been running for about an hour. Then i tried to open Autodesk Revit Structure 2008. I was typing in some commands to do some changes to a building design but every time I would enter a command other programs were opening up and closing. So all of these problems have been stemming from this file, I think. Also my computer seems to be running hotter than normal. When idle my ram usage was at about fifty percent. Yesterday it was idling at 32%. Also 12 cell battery was getting drained at a rate of 1% per minute, while idle...wtf. So what i'm doing right now is backing up my files. i'm only backing up documents, music and pictures. What i'm thinking about doing is another another clean vista install and then restore all of my documents. I don't have much so it won't take but one night to restore all of my programs and other files. So I have a few questions. Is that file really the problem? If so, what route should I take? If I decide to do a clean install, should I restore my old documents on the computer? THanks.

Try Unlocker; I've had great luck with it. And be careful about what you download from the Net. Good luck.

Sounds like a virus or malware, have you tried any other virus scanners other than Norton? I've never had much luck with Norton so I don't trust it. Another idea is to try and delete the file from a dos prompt, sometimes that will do the trick.

    Hi,
I've had quite a bit of experience with deleting the undeleteable.

    Unlocker is a good choice.
    Then MoveOnBoot
    Killbox
    Delete FXP

If all these fail, and sometimes they will, boot off of a Ubuntu live CD. It now has read/write capabilities to ntfs.

I just had a box in here that had a ddccyxy.dll file that was causing the desktop to disappear every 10 seconds. This thing was undeletable. Finally, Ubuntu deleted it. Actually, it moved it to another location in a separate folder.

Here's a recent thread. I have a couple of postings.
