    I decided to wait.

I was going to buy a customized DV5000z with an ML-40, but I decided to wait until June/July or so when the Turion 64 dual cores come to the market. And I'll buy a similar model then. So until then, cheers.

I'll just have to live with the ugly color scheme Dell Inspiron 6000 until then.

Be ready to spend double in June/July, at least. Your Dell seems a good notebook, so if you are not in a hurry it may be beneficial for you to wait.

If you're waiting for the dual core, ask yourself this: What am I going to use it for? There's no need to wait for dual core, if you're no going to use it. I just wish it could come sooner than June 6. It might drive prices down and let me get a better DV8000z, though that's doubtful.

I was in the same boat as you. But I had to have a laptop for light work, so ended up getting a sub 500 one.

I'll spend a bundle when the next 64bit dual/quad cores come out.

You could always just buy the DV5000Z now with the base semperon and then buy the new processor that you want when it comes out.

Only if AMD decides to make Socket 754 dualcore Turions and HP decides to update the dv5000z BIOS to support it, neither of which is likely. Plus HP has made it an absolute PITA to get to the CPU socket.

Waiting is always a bit dangerous. If you need something now I wouldn't wait, but if you need a good excuse to delay spending money then waiting for the Turion X2 (or whatever they'll call it) is a good one.

I boarded that boat on Dec 05, 2005, and searched every significant forum on the net, and check every legitimate dealers price to hone in on a notebook to replace my main notebook that took a dive.

Instead of buying a model in Dec, with the thought that the Dual Cores were coming out, I decided to wait. I waited two months and finally pulled trigger on a notebook that didn't have a Dual Core but did have a HUGE discount and thoroughly satisfied my needs.

So I don't think waiting is such a bad deal if you can, whether you get the Dual AMD or not, you still may come out on top with the dealers trying to unload older technology. I think it's a win win situation, again, if waiting doesn't affect productivity that will cost you either grades or money.

wow almost just like me. I was about to buy the dv5000z. It's near perfect except for one thing. No video card. if it had a x700 in it, i would of bought it in a heart beat. Now i'm waiting until summer (no rush needed) to see what else HP comes out with. Hopefully a refresh of the dv5000z, vid card and dual core turion

The MSI MS-1029 should work for you. It's the same size as the DV5000z but it has an ATi X700. It's a build it yourself laptop, but there are several retailers that make it for you. It, of course, is cheaper to make yourself though.

Yes I would use the dual cores. I don't really have the patience for computers with a single core.

I don't *need* a new computer, but my current Dell doesn't have a DVD+-RW, the resolution is too high, the color scheme is butt ugly, and the graphics card is too minimum.

The reason I decided to wait is if I end up jumping on the Turion 64 right now, I'll end up regretting it. I might as well wait until the leap in technology from AMD is finally brought to the notebook front. I know there's always something new on the horizon, but dual core technology is a really big productivity jump that doesn't happen very often. And if I change my mind, hell, the ML-40 (or maybe even ML-44) will be a lot cheaper.

Anyone know where I can buy just the guts and not an assembled model for the MSI MS-1029?

ewiz.com sells MSI barebones notebooks, but it's not that much cheaper to assemble your own than to let xmeld or rawpowerpc do it for you. There's a new model, the MS-1039, coming in March I think that has a Radeon X1600.
