I have been having problem with Atheros ar5009 on dv5 for the last two weeks. I did clean install and it didnt help. I tried almost everything on the web to solve the problem but no luck. I just called Hp tech support today but they want me to do the system recovery but I couldnt do it because I did the clean install.
I am thinking of replacing it with different wireless card. I don't know what is compatible with my system. I have amd turion x2 2.1 ghz. the wireless uses pci-e slot. can anyone recommend me a wireless card that will work with my laptop beside atheros? thanks
Ps. Model is dv5-1113us

I can see you enjoy your dv5, dv5regrettable.
What's the problem with your wireless card? -
Here is my problem....

Basically, connect to router for less than 30 sec, then connection drops, then the wireless card becomes unstable and make my mouse and video viewing laggy until i turn it off. -
You upgraded the router's firmware?
-
router and driver are up to date.
-
Looks like they need to fix it on their end. Nothing much you can really do.
You can dump windows and try using linux or something. Their drivers are usually good -
Another problem surfaced, the screen will shake and flicker when I move around the laptop especially touching the lid.
I did the clean install, and I can't really call the tech support to send in for repair. I did make the recovery dvds. Is the anyway I could use the recovery dvds to put the computer to original state? If so, please direct me to the instruction. thanks -
Yes, thats what recovery discs are for.
Do a recovery install and call up HP for diagnostics and hopefully a replacement. -
how do I do the recovery install? thanks
-
Insert the discs and boot from them, sorta like Installing windows.
-
ok thanks flipfire

the hardware related screen flicker is a common but annoying problem with the DV5t. I just got mine back from HP about 25 minutes ago and the screen seems to be doing fine. Get a hold of an HP case manager and they will be able to help you out.
-
well I tried recovering but it failed. the message said something 1005 and call hp tech support for help. i guess I am hitting the dead end here.
-
if you created recovery disks and they don't work thats not your fault its HP's. Your still in warranty so they should be able to send you recovery media for free. Furthermore even though you did do a clean install of vista that does not invalidate the warranty on your computer. If it came down to it and you really felt like it you could SEND the computer in to HP to have THEM recover the notebook to factory settings. Your best bet would be just to contact them and request media, even though you switched the OS you also created your recovery disks which don't work.
-
Actually, I didnt switch the OS. I just got rid of all bloatware. I know HP tech, and they are looking for any reason not to help their customer. If I told them, I want to recover it, they probably ask me to restore the computer.
What is my best strategy to beat them out? -
Wait did you do a clean install or just uninstall the bloatware. You will still have your recovery partition if you didnt do the clean install.
