I hate my HP DM1Z touchpad

I've got the latest drivers, I've tried disabling most of the gestures in the driver control panel. I tried installing the hack described on this site and others (but when running the executable, nothing appeared to happen).

The cursor jumps around madly when the pad of my hand brushes the touchpad as I type.

This is the most infuriating thing ever and really makes me hate using this otherwise great device. I seriously want to throw it out the window and buy a Lenovo.

Is there any way I can address this without disabling the all the touch/tap features on the touchpad?

Break down and buy a mouse. Touchpads suck

Is there an option to increase palm check sensitivity?

Double-tap the top left corner when typing to disable the touchpad. Double-tap again to resume using the touchpad.

I disable the palm check on the touchpad because I find that actually causes more problems (when gaming you can't hold W to walk plus use the trackpad to aim for example). I never have any issues with resting or sliding my palm across the touchpad, guess I just naturally hold my wrists outwards.

Anyway, if you can get rid of that current DM1z and order the new one that came out yesterday I highly recommend, that's what I did, and the new one is great! They fixed the touchpad issues completely.

I've tried disabling and adjusting sensitivity on palm check and it doesn't seem to do any good. I've updated all the drivers and read the support info on hp.com.

I suspect that disabling all gestures & taps will be my only option, which SUCKS (hear that HP? SUCKS!) but not quite as much as having the cursor fly madly about the screen, erasing the previously written text.

If I end up replacing this laptop, it won't be with HP gear. Between this and the Pre/Touchpad fiasco they have really pissed me off.

Yeah, well, I was out of contact in the Yukon Territory when all that happened. No Touchpad for me.

HP can suck it for leading us on like that and for making this P.O.S. netbook.

Since my touchpad/cursor is annoying the hell out of me today, I thought I'd bump this thread once more.

If I'm lucky someone has a fix. Otherwise, I just hope I can prevent a few people from buying one of these annoying pieces of crap.

What's the big deal with double tapping the tap left corner to disable when typing? Repeat to use it again. It's a built-in fix and seems to be a no-brainer.

That is an annoying burden on the end-user.

    Usually it goes like this:
    1. I click on something
    2. I start typing
    3. I change tabs and need to click on something
    4. I go back to the first tab and start typing
    5. The cursor goes craptacular and deletes some text
    6. I curse and double-tap the upper-left corner of the touchpad
    7. Nothing happens so I do it again
    8. The OSD flashes some random icons and the touchpad is disabled
    9. I type for a minute and then need to switch tabs and click on something
    10. I start using the touchpad but nothing happens.
    11. I curse and double-tap the upper-left corner of the touchpad
    12. Nothing happens so I do it again

    ... ad nauseum.

    It's really annoying.

I have to agree. I love my D7 laptop and it was a great buy, but the touchpad (and keyboard too) really do suck. My thinkpad has a trackpoint and a touchpad, both work flawlessly, but it cost twice as much, so I guess I get what I pay for.

I only hope HP starts to put more R+D into function, less into appearance.

    Its really not that bad!
Beleive me ive had laptop's with much worse touchpad's, the biggest problem for me is not having seperate left/right click buttons but I got used to it.

I have used a variety of laptops, all with touchpads, ranging from 7-17", from Asus, Dell, HP, Compaq, IBM & Lenovo.

This is the only machine I have ever used whose touchpad was possessed by demons.

It makes absolutely no sense that while typing some text the touchpad can shift-tab, highlight a random piece of text, replace it what whatever you're currently typing, and right-click around the page while it is at it. While typing this post I had to correct the text 3 times and the damn thing managed to turn on some sort of developer's debug console in Chrome.

    .

This thing is a piece of crap.

You either need to learn to type (palms up) or just disable it when typing. It's not the huge deal you make it out to be.

Something is wrong with this machine. The behavior I described above is literal. The demon comments are, of course, hyperbole.

I know how to type. It really is that bad. I am not the only one that has this problem but not every DMZ1 owner has this problem either.

It is reasonable to conclude that a subset of these machines are afflicted and can accurately be described as pieces of crap.
